Hello all,
I have been in contact with Nissan HQ in Melbourne in regards to what is happening with the Nissan Leaf. I managed to get a Leaf product specialist to call me back and we had a good chat.
For some background I currently have a 2010 I-Miev and I am very happy with it, but with it and a near new SUV my thoughts are to consolidate. What i don't want is to commit to a current 2012 built car and find out a revision is coming in the next few months.
What i can say now after talking with them is that quite simply the Leaf is not on the radar for the foreseeable future. They will look at the business case when the next new model is out which is likely late 2015/early 2016.
For me the lure of the heat pump technology, 6.6kw charging and different trim colours was quite attractive.
As far as available numbers and colours in bond, he couldn't tell me off the bat. What he did say was that all the current stock has compliance plates fitted. Typically they get fitted on demand as they come out of bond. This indicates to me that stock is getting quite low.
I may be still keen on one even now....but the pencil needs to be sharpened........quite a bit...

this is a common problem in marketing "What i don't want is to commit to a current 2012 built car and find out a revision is coming in the next few months." just google thermomix new model backlash.
so they have to decide if announce too far ahead they won't be able to move the current stock. if they give no warning anyone who buys a leaf a month before the new model feels cheated.

Also the Osborne effect was another famous incident which had the phenomenon named after it. So does this mean we're all part of a really exclusive car club now? Thanks for the info reecho, interesting news. Your name sounds familiar, are you from the AEVA forum? What's the bet today's deadline will be missed again!

This doesn't sounds uprising at all. I'm guessing at the current rate of sales they remaining stock of under 100 units will sell out just in time for the completely new model. So this is no big deal.
If Nissan AU bucked the world wide trend of Nissan and didn't stock the next LEAF model or was an expensive order only proposition they would be handing sales to Tesla. Something I'm sure Nissan HQ would not want.
