Christchurch is becoming the electric vehicle centre of New Zealand - at least for a day, as it is hosting "EVolocity". "EVolocity is a motor sport event with an environmental twist – demonstrating electric vehicle performance and efficiency. EVolocity aims to promote the use of electric vehicles while also encouraging New Zealanders to innovate, invent and become involved in the future of transport." evolocity.co.nz/Here's what is instore for us on Sunday: - Competitions for electric go karts, electric motor bikes and electric cars - 16 Canterbury high school teams and their electric vehicles - NZ's only Tesla Model S - which just arrived in the country a month or two ago - High performance petrol vs electric racing - The world’s fastest electric drag motor bike (0 – 100km/h in 1 second) As for me, I'm participating in a 21km eRally (production car category) - the course needs to be completed in 30 minutes with the aim of using the least amount of power. Sounds like fun

quaternary I can't help but notice the bike carrier on the back of your leaf, care to provide the effects of having one on a leaf? Where did you buy it? Thanks! Hi there, The bike rack is a regular one that fits onto a tow bar. My wife spray painted it blue to match the blue of the Nissan logo! Actually I haven't done any tests to show the effect upon drag of having a bike rack attached, or bike-rack-plus-bike - I guess I don't leave it attached all that much accept when in use, and I only use it for short distances (mostly ferrying various children between school and home.) But I couldn't do without it. If you are interested in reading more about the tow bar that I got fitted, you can read more about that here, including photos and price: ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/133/towbar-fitted?page=2With regards the efficiency rally this weekend, I have contemplated doing the course with the bike rack attached - maybe even with streamers - just to highlight the fact that the main thing is to enjoy driving these awesome machines without getting too hung up on efficiency - let's just drive 'em! (Having said that, my competitive side will probably mean the bike rack will stay at home, and I'll probably even fold in the wing mirrors!) Cheers Mark

They're a pretty cool concept. I'll keep my eyes open for any word of the Tango at the event. Here's a short video of Rick Woodbury talking about the Tango, www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vz1L708LK0, for anyone like me who hasn't heard of it before.

What an awesome day it was last Sunday - electric vehicles and enthusiasts galore. For me the highlight, apart from getting giddy on the number of Leafs that were there (around 10 or so), was chatting to all the people who had done their own conversions - really fascinating. I'm sure there are a lot of better snaps on the internet, but here are some personal pics. Firstly here is me and the crew prior to the eRally. Didn't take any prizes, maybe because the whole family ended up piling in - but it was all for fun anyway. And then there was what we thought was the 'best dressed' parade - but it was the 'best presented' parade. So we were, ahem, the only car that looked like something out of a fancy dress party . Never mind, the kids in the crowd seemed to like it. Anyway, let me introduce you to our creation: Ladybird on a LeafAnd finally, here's one of 'Ladybird on a Leaf' sidling up to a Tesla. In fact, we may have had every Tesla in the country at our EV-event - we had two Model Ss and one Roadstar entertaining the crowds. (One of the events was the Roadstar racing a Ferrari. Unfortunately the Roadstar spun out on the track, and never had time to catch up again - alas.) Oh and another highlight was meeting Craig from Paihia, who is driving the length of New Zealand in his Leaf! From the very top - Cape Reinga - to the very bottom - Bluff - a trip of about 2,100 kilometres - and with only one Rapid Charger on the entire route. He timed it so he could be at EVolocity in the weekend, and was due to get to Bluff about now. Doing what we all dream - a bloody long road trip in our beloved electric vehicle. You can check out his blog here: www.eventure.kiwi/search?max-results=100 (he's a bit behind in his blog, but it makes interesting reading)
