The Hunter Valley Electric Vehicle Festival www.hunterevfestival.net/ is held in Newcastle each year. They have asked me to take my LEAF to the next one in October.

The Hunter Valley Electric Vehicle Festival promoted this presentation. I think it is about more than the iMiev, but about electric vehicles in general that's why I have posted it here. Attachments:

Neat! I think the iMiev feeds into the public's criticism of EVs as it is essentially a quirky SmartCar. The LEAF is so great as it is a really nice car that has the added benefit of being an EV. In other words no compromises other than range, only advantages. The LEAF is what everyone should be thinking of when EVs come to mind.

My LEAF is now registered to attend this Festival, 27 October, and they are going to ask Kloster Nissan at Hamilton, who were recently licensed to sell and service the LEAF, to come, too, so there could be more than one LEAF there ;D

With the new sticker price it may be more than a novelty and might get people seriously interested! That would be great!

I hope to have my LEAF by October, what are the chances of organising a group of LEAF owners there? Good PR!
Not stealing your thunder Phoebe, and getting there from Sydney for me might be interesting without a pit stop along the way!

ahhh that's what had ruled it out for me....I'd love to attend something like this but getting there, and back, is logistically challenging!

If only there was a Chargepoint half way there or something at Westfields Tuggerah. I have a friend who lives in the Central Coast who can help get me across the line.

Thanks Phoebe. Looking forward to joining the fray, just getting excited about it all at this stage. I shouldn't get ahead of myself!
There's also also a NRMA Chargepoint at Kotara but it seems offline. Between that and Mildren Nissan in Artarmon is 141km which might be cutting it too close.

Welcome, Feng, good to have you ' aboard '. I don't know how hilly that route is, but with 100% charge, non-Duncan type driving , and careful energy conservation you should make 141 kms. With care, I believe 160 kms to ' empty ' is realistic.

I've more or less done the route Feng is talking about. It's OK coming out of Sydney but I found it very difficult going towards Sydney - I think there is more up hill that way. And I never did more than 75 kph on the Freeway, and the trucks nearly run up the back up you at that speed 'cos they think you are too slow.

With luck, a future version of the LEAF's sat nav will be more EV friendly, take into account contours ( hills ) on the route, and advise the guessometer accordingly Keep dreaming ;D

When they offer you charging at the festival, will it be DC quickcharge or just regular charging? I'd be hesitant about quickcharging.
Got offered a passable amount to trade in my current Golf so I'm coming very close to getting the LEAF now!

I don't know the answer to your question, Feng. Ask the organiser by email at Belinda.McNab@newcastle.edu.au. I have de-registered and won't be going because I have health problems which would make it difficult to stay there all day and I don't feel I understand enough about my LEAF - I just drive it

Whilst someone might be able to dazzle the punters with endless facts and figures, Phoebe, I believe it is the passion of LEAF owners for their beautiful cars that is the real selling point - that and a test drive.

Couldn't agree more Brian. While I was passionate about owning an electric car, it was the test drive that sealed it. I expected to have to compromise on the ride by buying into electric early. No so. In fact, nicest feeling car I have ever had and 8 months later, still feel the same

Welcome Feng! I agree with David and Brian about passion being the best sales method.
Regarding level 2 or 3 charging at the festival, I would be 99.9% sure it's normal level 2 charging, not the level 3 quick charge. Those things cost as much as a house and need a nuclear power plant to keep running! ;-)

I'm still keen to go, I'm not sure if I want to participate as an exhibitor though. Imagine a convoy of LEAFs venturing up the F3.

I might do that if I knew some other LEAF owners were coming too. If you unhide your email address on your profile on this forum we can communicate by email closer to the date to make arrangements. It would be good to meet other LEAF owners, if you really can make it all the way up the F3, which is problematic. You have to buy and get used to your LEAF, before you tackle that difficult exercise. The only other LEAF owner I've met so far is Jim Hare.
