Okay, that's the third flat tyre we've had in two years.
Our family average is one every five years so I'm officially blaming the Eco tyres for not standing up to a small brush with the curb.
Clearly this isn't a big issue across the board but very real for our family.
There has been a bit of discussion about high performance wheels, but my question is can I select a more durable tyre to fit the current wheels or would I need bigger/better wheels if I want stronger tyres?
I'm not looking for any other improvement other than not going flat.
Any advice?
Jim

are you damaging the rim or just killing the sidewall

Just grazing the sidewall, usually on the curb. My wife did it once, I admit to doing it once, and last night my 16-year old did it while practising parking.
It's the kind of curb scratch that I wouldn't think twice about in another car, but in the LEAF every brush is high risk.
Just wondering if I should replace all four with something more durable rather than go through this process every 4-6 months!
Or might just be a run of bad luck but I really don't think so.

Decreasing the size of the side wall will strengthen then you'll damage the rim. Try a different brand I guess you've always replaced with same brand and model ?

Yeah, since it's always been one at a time we replaced just the flat one with the same model, which is a super eco, high milage thingy.
This is why I'm contemplating replacing all four at once with a different model, looking for something more durable.
Looking for suggestions.

Okay, so ended up swapping the ECO150 front tyres out for Turanza Serenity Plus, which are supposed to be quite durable. Expecting a drop in efficiency but not in a major way.
Will be interesting to see what happens we next meet the curb...

How does the road noise compare? Does the traction control still kick in when you accelerate away from a T intersection?

Jim,
I haven't had any problems with mine, and I've done 8000km on them. That is except for the lack of grip, and the odometer/speedometer not being accurate.
Now that I've put the new wheels/tyres on I'm much happier. I'd recommend you do the same.
Duncan can correct me if I get these figures wrong. The original wheels are 16 x 6.5" and the tyres are 205/55R16. I went to wheels 18 x 7.5" and tyres 235/45R18.
You shouldn't have any problem finding tyres in either size at a good price. Just work out what you want before talking to the "tyre professionals" as a lot of them haven't got a clue.
If you want to stay with the old type tyres you could have mine for a reasonable price, but I'd recommend you do the upgrade. I haven't looked back. I'll talk to you about it at the meet on Sunday.
Mark

Thanks Mark, I'm not looking to spend thousands on new wheels, I'm just tired of replacing tyres every time someone accidentally bumps the curb, which unfortunately our family seems prone to do.
The Turanzas are supposed to be more durable so we'll see if the performance is affected.

Do you have tyre and rim insurance Jim?

Is there such a thing? No, don't have that but really shouldn't need it. Hoping the thicker tyres bring us back down to one flat every five years rather than 8 months!

continental seem to be a popular choice among I-miev drivers unfortunately we don't have common sized wheels and fronts are different to backs so not much choice.
