visited BMW today as an experiment at around 2pm on a saturday.
found a parking spot to the left of the vefill (there was an i8 parked in front of the vefill but it was using the J1772 charger to the left), however it seems the chademo cable is on the right of the verfill and won't reach to a park on the left. :-(
the park to the right had another non-EV parked there (only the two parks in front of the J1772 and vefill were marked EV parking). I didn't bother asking the i8 to be moved as I really didn't need a charge, and it also was parked in by an i3.
will try again another time.

Gave the fast charger a go tonight. It stopped at 80%, I then returned it to the plug holder before doing the charge process a second time. This got me charging above 80%. The minutes to go value seems a bit off to me.

not really once your above 80% it doesn't really matter that your using a fast charger hence why they always quote a to 80% figure. at 90% even the on board charger starts backing off and proving less power.

The minutes to go value seems a bit off to me. You have to do the same thing at the one here at UWA. Did it actually charge over 80% by the vehicles gauge? Mine only goes to 80% when the charger says it is at 100%.

I actually don't know what 80% looks like on the gauge. Due to how far I drive every day, I have to charge to 100% However at 90% by the Fast Charger's display. I was down 3 bars on the leaf when I powered up. Really should set myself up with Leafspy.

Does everyone typically have the ChargePoint app and the PlugShare app installed? I prefer the looks and feel of PlugShare but don't they basically do the same thing?

The ChargePoint app really only shows stations operated by ChargePoint. It does also tell you when that station is 'in use'. The PlugShare app is user interactive. With users adding statin locations and types from a public one to a private owner offering their station for use. But unless the user 'checks in' the station appears to be free on PlugShare as its not directly connected to the stations software.

chargepoint is a USA company www.chargepoint.com/ and so is their hardware but in Australia it's part of the visionstream www.visionstream.com.au/ collection of companies. the relationship between the two companies is more of that the USA company is a supplier to visionstream with the entire product range in the USA not available here.

Don't think so Tesla use mennekes sockets, i3 and Japanese cars use J1772 That sucks! So what is the actual difference between those two sockets? Shape or is it output?

Don't think so Tesla use mennekes sockets, i3 and Japanese cars use J1772 to be correct for fast charging tesla use mennekes plug but then a undocumented method of comms. Leaf use Japanese CHAdeMO and the i3 uses American CCS type 1.

I tried out the Veefil charger at the BMW dealer in Brisbane. Only had 2 bars left which wasn't going to get me home. After plugging in, the Veefil indicated my "battery %" at 24%. My son and I had a quick look at the lovely i3 in the showroom...nice but with only 2 seat belts in the back it is as useless to me as the Volt. The charger shutdown after 22 minutes when the battery indicator hit 80% and the unit had delivered 8.4 Kwh, which is an average charging power of 23KW. I plugged it back in and it started charging again. We had some ice cream and beet juice at the coffee shop across from the Mercedes dealer...nice place to wait out the fast charge. We returned 25 minutes later to find the battery 98% and the unit shutdown a seconds later. Checked the GOM and it showed a full charge (and 2 regen circles available) which seems consistent with the 98% indicated on the Veefil. 47 minutes from 2 bars to full charge (total of 11.3 Kwh) is pretty good. Will have to use this charger for a Sunshine coast trip in the coming months.

Nice. Wish there were more of them around. I wonder if the dealer will ever feel like they're being taken advantage of and restrict usage?
