Hi everyone,
Well it appears I maybe the lucky first Leaf owner in Aus to need a windscreen replacement. A rock jumped up and hit the windscreen whilst my lovely wife was driving on Sydney's M4 last week. A nasty crack has since developed. We went for a drive to Nepean Nissan this morning and they advised that there does not appear to be any in Aus nor could they give me a price.
I only want to use a Genuine Nissan screen as I have read on the US Forum that the OEM screen is tuned to filter out high frequency sound from the drivetrain. Whether this is actually true or not it seems a reasonable thing.
Now while I will need to wait at least 2 week for the windscreen to arrive from the land of the rising sun, I thought this would be a great opportunity to fit the HomeLink rear view mirror. There seems to be models from Gentex that not only have the Homelink but also a compass which is also nifty. Has anyone also fitted one of these and if so which model and any ideas on price ?

Make sure you don't buy any X10 equipment for home automation in case you want more home control, they are complete rubbish. 2 years ago I went crazy and bought heaps of X10 equipment only to find out that they are completely unreliable.
The protocol was designed in the 70s when people had a very limited number of devices at home. Today your home power signal is shockingly noisy, resulting in false or no triggers.
My drawers are full of this rubbish.

I LOVED X-10 stuff in the 80s and 90s in California. It was Da Bomb! Controlled everything with it and even had a transmitter on my digital watch. Child's play with any iPhone today but in 1987 it was total James Bond fodder. Very cool. Shame to hear it's ineffective today.
I have some Belkin WEMO automation in the house, works pretty well, is cheap and seems to do the trick.

The Homelink mirror I was looking at installing is either the Genuine Nissan one they use in the 2012 Leaf overseas (part# 96321CM30A) or one of the Gentex mirrors (who apparently are the supplier for the mirror to Nissan) with the Homelink buttons (which is only really used to open the garage door) and the inclusion of a compass

Glazier confirmed that it was an impact of an object that hit the wiper which seems to have caused a sharp impact point similar to the pointy tool that one uses to break the glass to get out of a bus.
I've emailed the grandparents. Will be interesting to see of any of the kids fess up. Cool part of being part of some families is that things get broken.
I should have listened to my spider sense. Will try to do this next time.
Ben Instant windscreens wangara has already replaced windscreen on a nissan leaf. Had to wait 2 weeks to come from Japan.
The imiev glass was in stock. He has replaced one before. There also have been other Ev conversions eg Mazda 121 whose glass had to be replaced. So he's seen Evs in the shop before.
