The Intelligence Key Low Battery Warning Display is coming on intermittently when I turn my LEAF power on. Has this happened to anyone else?

According to this thread two years is about right for a low key battery: www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13398. You'll need a CR2025 battery and the manual should explain what to do. Convenient it gives you warning rather than finding out the hard way!

I've only had my LEAF 19 months and it's done less than 4,000km so that is a bit sad. But I did notice in that info you put up, Feng, that one fellow found his spare key went flat first, because he stored it near his Wi-Fi router. I have recently got a Wi-Fi router - perhaps I'd better store both my keys somewhere else, like in the shed, only place I can get any distance

We keep our keys in the same room as the router and haven't run them flat yet after a year. Do you push the buttons on the fob to lock/unlock the car or do you use the button on the door/boot handles? I'm guessing the latter might consume less power.
Maybe it's two years from date of manufacture instead of ownership?

I've watched that, but the manual says you have to undo a screw and you should put a cloth over the screwdriver to protect the fob - that all seems a bit complicated to me. The fob in the video was a 2006 model, it said, and it was much easier - must have changed since then!

Yeah I'm getting the warning too. So pretty normal. But changing the battery seems like a hassle. But I'm sure the longer I out it off the more I'll regret it when it really is flat and I have to hold it onto the dash to turn the car on. Lol.

Yep my key warning came on intermittently a couple of weeks ago and like Jim I swapped it out.
My leaf is 2 years in July so it's in the right ballpark. Rather than wait for my wife's to warn I swapped that too so they will be in sync change times. Guess we are all in for the swap soon....

Phoebe if you think it's too complex the key cutter outside big w Greenhills will do it for $15. Otherwise swap keys with your 2nd one and run it low first.

Gab, thanks for emergency info, but the idea of spending $15 to open the fob horrified me so I went away and found an even smaller small screw driver than the one I had been using and I eventually got it open, but it was very stiff and the insides fell out when it finally snapped open. Fortunately I got it all back together again and it still works So now all I need is a battery, but I am not a regular user of eBay and I can't get eBay to take my order. Life wasn't meant to be easy

Phoebe,
I'd be happy to order them on your behalf, PM me your address and I'll buy them for you. You can buy me a coffee at our next meet!
P.S. Everything fell out of mine the first time I opened it as well!

Plus they would try to charge you $8 for a single battery on top!

Yep, but I'm ever so glad Gab told me about that shop, because it really fired me up to do better at opening the fob, myself, and not have to pay someone $15 to do it for me.

Happy to help Phoebe, always good to have a spare or you can use the additional battery for your other FOB.

Yes, we, too, have been getting the key warning, after about 22 months.
Whilst we use the door handle button 99% of the time, the key / fob still has to transmit / respond to interrogation to unlock / lock.
We do not know how long before delivery the batteries were installed.

]I use the buttons on the door and boot handles. They were all manufactured April 2012. weren't they - in that case everyone should be having a problem about now!!! I would suspect that the dealer installed the batteries, as it would not make sense to install them in the factory. Hence we will all expire at a different time, not at the same time. Also not all the Australian Leafs were manufactured in April 2012. For example, ours was built in June 2012.

It's just that a lot seem to have expired round about now, and we certainly bought them at different times!!!

Mine just did it too. I have driven 56,000km. But it is almost 2 years since I bought the LEAF. I have not checked the spare key yet.

I got 2 years and 16,000km. My guess is it doesn't have to do with how much you drive, that it's always emitting its control signal to the car and 2 years give or take is what to expect.

Yep. Both mine and my wife's key went flat within a week of each other a month ago. Pack of 5 for $1.27 on eBay

Watch the batteries on ebay - especially the no names. (Speaking from sad experience!). My battery went flat a week ago on a 12-month-old LEAF fob. Not too difficult to get open and swap; you're much better off buying a brand name (eg Mallory or Eveready) battery from Woolies because they're likely to be fresher stock. $8.50 for two.

I think I said it somewhere in the forum. You can buy 2 in chemist warehouse for about $6.

Yep, I got my eBay batteries refunded under Australian Consumer law and got the company investigated by ACCC for failing to comply with the law. The batteries died within a week. All over $1.37. Amazing that a Sydney business would do that over such a little amount. ACCC found in my favour and I was refunded $1.37 and the company on eBay was delisted from ABN until an investigation is completed. Most would just accept the $1.37 loss, but it's the principle.
