But then the earthquakes started - actually its four years ago this week - and everything changed... Actually, it would be even more a reason to build it properly now as the city is spending money on new infrastructure anyway. Last Christmas/New Years we went on a New Zealand cruise. The ship still only stopped in Akaroa. It was a long bus trip to ChristChurch, so we thought that it is better to remember it as we last saw it and stayed in Akaroa for the day

Well I can finally say I saw my first other LEAF in the wild (since I bought).
0708, cnr Hampton and South St, Fremantle. Silver. Turning right into Hampton to go south.
Anybody admit to being this person. I did not have time to hit the horn to say hi. I did wave at the back of the car though.

A few days ago I saw a white Leaf parked in my own suburban street in Melbourne! It is not a very long street either about 70 house numbers. What's happening?

I didn't even know there was an EV sticker for the plate - mine certainly doesn't have one. technically it's required to have one (in Victoria) or the police can issue a defect sticker like they do to hoons. which only leaves you the option of towing your car home... the stickers should be available from vicroads for a $1. same for the hybrid stickers.

I did a little research last night. What's the point of regulations if no one knows about them? I bought an EV from a Dealer - new. It didn't come with a sticker. It's registered, by the Dealer, by Vic roads. Did anyone think at any stage to put a damn sticker on or even tell the new owner one was required?! You can't just expect a car owner to trundle through 400 pages of road regs to find the subsection relating to putting a f@#$ng sticker on your number plate. I wonder if cops even know about it. I'm prepared to exercise my civil disobedience and run without the sticker until I am officially informed that I require one.

Could they potentially fine you for it? Any recourse if that happens?

Actually the problem is that VicRoads don't have EV stickers. They only have hybrid stickers. I have contacted them a number of times about this and the answer was no each time. I have seen EV stickers on the trial Leafs, so I insisted that they must have them, but they said that must have been a one off sticker. So, there is no issue about running around without a sticker. We tried to comply, but it is in fact VicRoads that is not complying. In the meantime, this is what I did, more as an EV advertisement then anything else:

I have e-mailed the EV trial people twice, on both occasions I asked about: how to get EV stickers given that they have them and how to get a Better Place tag. They have not responded to any of my e-mails. And this was before the trial was over.
Prior to this at the EV show in Melbourne, I have also asked the EV trial person who was out there in person about how to get the sticker she had on her car. She took my details and said that she will get back to me. She is still getting back...

If you don't want to have a sticker, come to the West. The authorities have difficulties acknowledging that EVs exist, let alone understanding them. When I went to put my electric motor bike ' over the pits ' for registration ( admitedly about 6 years ago ), they were totally bushed because ' The Form ' required an entry for number of cylinders ?, and the only options for ' fuel ' were petrol / diesel / gas. The whole process took a very long time, and a lot of closed consultation with The Higher-Ups But I got it in the end. I like your triangular sticker, riddick. It could be useful for members of the emergency services called to the scene of an accident. I wonder how many of them know where to find the electrical ' kill switch ' on the LEAF.

I have the EV stickers on my number plates. I bought a pair from Bryce in the ATA because they had a few sets made up for their members. They came up on the AEVA forum a couple of years ago.
Vicroads was no help in finding them. Like the LPG stickers they expect the manufacturers to supply them.

Meet-up Christchurch Style! My beloved spotted another Leaf, and a red one at that, parked on the side of the road! So she left a 'Love your Leaf' note (as you do) with our phone number on it. To cut a long story short, two weeks later we were having what I guess is our city's first Leaf Meet. A lovely time was had by all! The first Christchurch "Leaf Meet"The Leafs get to know each other a bit better (while their owners are inside celebrating the start of a cleaner future with some Champagne)

I saw my first BMW i3 yesterday in Springvale Road, Melbourne. It passed me at the traffic lights and disappeared in the other lane. BMW Australia HQ is just down Springvale Road, and the car had number plates BMW-003 so I guess it was BMW's test/demo/press car.
Looks a bit weird (strange coming from a LEAF owner I know) but I expect you'd get used to it. Too expensive for me anyway.
