Just noticed today that a whole bunch of LEAFs hit carsales. Well 4 anyway. $34,990 the cheapest up to $37,990. Three listed just today. I was thinking are they clearing the way for the new model? But then thought it's probably just a rush to turn them over before end of financial year. Thoughts?

I'd suspect they are running very low on the original batch they brought in... So clearing the current demos is a good idea. Then slowly register they remaining stock as Denis also. Then the new model can slowly trickle in. Hopefully at the same drive away price of $40k. I'd suspect that a whole new model would be expected late next year (2015) early 2016 since this version of the LEAF made it's debut in Dec 2010... We might even get to skip the updated version.
We haven't even seen the VIC EV trial LEAFs hit the market yet!

When I called Nissan in December to find out when the new gen may come out, the only thing I could get out of them was that they may in fact skip a whole generation of LEAFs.

i can see their point they wait until they ship all there current stock and if they look at their sales trend the 2015 LEAF will be out by then :-p. Mitsubishi still have the i-miev on the website but rumor is if you order one they ship it in per order. Nissan may take the same position with the LEAF.
Dealers who still have a LEAF on the showroom floor will wait to move it before EOFY

just saw this telstra propaganda video about providing 3g connectivity to Nissan for the leaf. Interestingly the telstra guy in it says "we did it for the first gen and we're doing it for the second gen." Wonder what he meant. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwoIIi8cIdM

I didn't get a clear answer to the question, so at least we know who the provider is. what these cars really need is wifi hotspots running off that same sim. would have been very easy to do technically

From memory it was 2 years free. I'll check the brochure when I get home.

I'm guessing I'll be the first to get notice of it cutting off so I'll let you know if/when it happens.

I was told that the carrier is Telstra and it is free for 3 years. We will have to start paying a yearly fee after that.
I am not interested in paying for Nissan to get my car data, so I will not be taking it up. I don't use it enough for other things at this stage to justify paying for it.
If it had wifi or internet (not just RSS), that would be an entirely different matter.

I agree. Kind of nice to control from the iPhone but not a feature I would pay for. Real time traffic data kind of nice but again, not something I would pay more than $20/year for.

They will be using Telstra m2m (Machine 2 Machine) jasper SIMs. Expect Nissan to be paying telstra somewhere between 50c and $3 per month per SIM.
Pricing depends on data volume and the number of sims you have in the fleet. I don't know how low Telstra will go to be honest. When I was looking into it $3 per month per sim what about what I needed on my data requirements and low volume.

When I downloaded the LeafSpy app I saw a CarWings alternative for the Leaf in the play store. Alas OpenWings is only available in the US, shame because it couldn't be any more clunky than what we have now.

Now we have an explanation, and the people to blame, for when Carwings goes down - B*o*d* T*l*t*a . . . I wouldn't use them by choice if they were the last carrier on the planet. The brief flash of the " Data Centre " suggested Mumbai My understanding was that it would be ' free ' ( i.e. built into the purchase price ) for three years. I certainly don't need or use any of the mobile to car functionalities. Reading the data has been useful when getting used to the car, but that could be available through wifi. So I agree with riddick.

Real time traffic data kind of nice but again, not something I would pay more than $20/year for. Real time traffic info is free. That comes through a radio signal, it needs no mobile connectivity. We have a separate GPS, which has a cradle that can receive the traffic info and it only needs an antenna.
