was searching on gumtree for "Nissan LEAF" spotted the ad "31,990" will see what Magic says about this. "Driveaway a brand new LEAF from $31,990" probably with finance package. Doesn't seem like it can be real. The $39,990 deal has been extended until June 30.

Looks like someone has been fired. The price is back up to $39,990 on the google ads. But at least there is a record of it on this forum. I wonder what the legalities are with incorrect prices on the net?

Probably none, just like incorrect sale prices in newspapers. They put up a small sign apologising for the incorrect information, don't even give you a balloon!

Neat! I guess as a Taxi it could be subjected to 4 quick charges every 24 hours, wonder how the battery will cope with this.

You think it's that round duct to the right of the orange sockets? There's a guy who's testing out the e-NV200 on the MNL forum, I might ask him and see if he can answer that. The battery really retains its heat. I drove to Speers Point again last weekend and after covering 350km and using the QC to charge half the battery at the end of the night it went from 27degC to 33degC while the ambient temperature was around 12degC. Constant driving and charging doesn't give the battery any time to dissipate. I wonder if modifying one of these to strap to the underside of the car has any effect? gdgrand.en.alibaba.com/product/1909114012-202400023/Heating_and_cooling_mattress_temperature_control_mattress_four_seasons.html

I'm disappointed by the LEAF numbers. It's clear not enough people realize it's available. At the drive away price new it has it's a no brainer stacked against a corolla or Mazda 3 of the same spec.

People are also still EXTREMELY cynical of EVs and think they need to go 1000KM per day. If the reality were known everywhere the uptake would be very different.

I think the only way people will be convinced is if they live with one for a month and see that it doesn't disrupt their normal patterns, it improves them because they never need to go to a petrol station.
A test drive to show the power won't cure them of range anxiety.

Perhaps you can suggest this to dean or nissan if not done so already

Actually, it sounds familiar. Isn't there already a rental plan in Australia where you can try a LEAF for a week?
What they need is a kickass marketing campaign daring the stupid public to try it.
"What, you still think electric cars aren't viable? You must also think Bob Hawke is still in office and Furbys are still in fashion! Try a LEAF for a month. First change your mind, then change the world."
I should have been in marketing... ;-)

I'm new to the site here, I mostly just read what's going on. Regarding the Leaf, I think offering the latest model or current year model would go a long way... Not saying to stock them.. Clear existing inventory first, but at least offer the current model. You can have 2012 effectively today, or order the current one and take delivery in 6 months or so... I'm currently trying to find out more details on the trial Leaf in Victoria...

Hi jcan, welcome and I like your Avatar!
I think custom ordering one at a time would send the RRP skyrocketing again and possibly do more harm than good. I believe the biggest problem is public ignorance, both that the cars exists but more importantly just how great they are and, for 95% of driving needs, does everything they need.
Nissan Australia isn't going to spend big on an education programme, especially since the LEAF doesn't make big money on after sales servicing like other cars do.
I suppose we're just in that awkward middle phase but hopefully the penny will drop soon.

remember they can't just choose to sell the 2014 model they have to make it pass the ADR test (Australian specific car design rules) . which means at least 1-2 months of work, and cost. small market with big costs.

I'm also wondering if people are put off by the $3k wall box?
Will be interesting to see if chargepoint aus have a model that is basic similar to circontrol wall box
Also boxes made by zerocarbonworld.

I'm also wondering if people are put off by the $3k wall box? The leaf sales rep I dealt with downplayed the need for the wall box and suggested most people just use the travel charger. I can understand by given it's a decent bump to the price of the car.

I'm currently trying to find out more details on the trial Leaf in Victoria... Hi ican, I have just purchased an Outlander PHEV and I'm in my 3rd week. But when looking at maybe getting a LEAF, I registered an interest at buying a LEAF at the end the trials in Victoria. On the 20 of this month I got an email asking if I was still interested in getting a LEAF - see the following info from the email: "Thank you for previously registering your interest in purchasing a Nissan LEAF that was used in the recent Government trial program. The trial is soon to end and these pre-loved vehicles will be looking for a new home in the next six to eight weeks. Details of the Nissan LEAF Government trial vehicles; Build date of April 2011 Compliance date of May 2011 Each vehicle has travelled around 25,000km Available in two colours – Glacier White or Blue Ocean From less than $20,000 drive away, this represents a significant saving on the retail price of a new LEAF vehicle." The email address was leaftrial@nissan.com.au and the subject line I gave was: Registration of interest for a Nissan LEAF Regards Goldie

Stick to your ' day job ', Jim I don't think you would sell to people by inferring that they are stupidly stuck in the past, whilst I can sympathise with your sentiment. However, if it was seen to be ' cool ' and ' with it ' to drive EVs, it could have more sales impact. I would like to see :- * an EV as a staple part of a ' soapie ' to get the message to the masses * the Environment Minister, Greg Hunt, driving an EV * in fact, every Canberra pollie driving an EV * The Prime Minister's fleet car should be a Tesla Heck, I don't want much
