I have noticed that the large BP's have very large solar arrays on the roof. Maybe this is an offset or just PR. Either way I have written to high up in BP to see if they are interested in installing some fast charge units in the car parks to allow us to stop, charge, coffee and food at the bigger roadhouses where they have room. I have mentioned the public opinion of BP in being more green, i.e. their roof solar charging cars. Will see how it goes and I will post the replies if any back here. Also mentioned Tritium here in Qld for the CHADEMO chargers.
Cheers

Great - some years ago, with a forward thinking Board, BP went into solar PV production in Australia.
But they were ahead of their time, public uptake at that time was slow, and the ' bean counters ' reckoned it was loosing too much money, so the Board at the time chickened out, and bailed out. I suspect many of those PV equipped stations are hangovers from BP's glory solar days.
Some far forward thinking fossil fuel companies are begining to ask themselves what they will have to sell when oil ( as we know it today ) runs out. I believe BP were on the right track originally.

while any new charger is a good thing i think i agree with my wife that a petrol station is the last place I want to charge. it smells the fumes are carcinogenic. I'm yet to see any petrol vapour capture devices regardless of what nsw government has said www.epa.nsw.gov.au/epamedia/EPAMedia13061101.htmwhile it's great i think we need to get out of our heads that we should charge a petrol stations.

I think NRMA got it right with their charger in Strathfield. Right amongst cafes, shopping and good times in general. Perfect environment if you're going to be there for up to 20 minutes. Maybe what they need to invent is a fast charger that has four charging plugs and place it in the middle of a 2-sided, 4-bay, 90 minute parking spot. Then you check on the display when your likely charge time will be. That would avoid people removing your plug or otherwise messing with it. You just plug in, see how long you have, and use that to gauge your time whether you get a quick coffee or so some shopping and lunch. The idea of 1 spot = 1 charger = 1 car doesn't quite add up, we need to start thinking in mass. while any new charger is a good thing i think i agree with my wife that a petrol station is the last place I want to charge. it smells the fumes are carcinogenic. So, if you own lotsa petrol stations, and want to make a buck before things go down hill you sell those stations while you can make a profit - Shell? EVs are on there way
