You can buy five LEAFs for the same price. If you've got the kind of money to afford one though, it would be something special to own.
I'd get a LEAF, Outlander PHEV and a Lexus hybrid. Something for every occasion!

If it starts at USD$70k in the US, even the with exchange rate and GST it's more than double here.
Guess the LEAF has the same problem, just seems more exaggerated at those numbers!
I would happily pay $75k for a Tesla, $200k, no thanks...

tesla roadster entry level, $AUD129k + ORC seems to have been sold, no longer on carsales nor james lane motors site. perhaps they'll try reselling it closer to model s time.

That price is perfectly lineball with it's competitors, so no surprise there. The challenge for them will be that with 1/10th the population, they won't be able to afford to support a charging network so one of their major tactics in the US will go missing. Still, I'd love one for the daily commute

The model s will find quite a few homes here given the distance it can cover, yes it's pricey but then so are many of the cars you see on the roads here.
When I was looking at buying the leaf 18 months ago I was very interested in the model s, but it was just a bit too pricey for a second car. Can't wait to see one on the roads here!!

The more, and the sooner, we see Tesla S s on Australian roads the better.
I believe the Tesla S could change the perception that many of the public have of EVs. And that will be good for LEAFs, and other EVs. The Tesla S has certainly had that effect in the U.S..
The Tesla's in-your-face classey styling, performance, features and range would have to make many hardened petrol heads sit up and take notice.
Viva the EV Revolution.

Looks like it'll be a hit over here. Weren't they delayed in the US so Mitsubishi could satisfy demand in Europe and the rest of the world? Glad we got in first, I'd get one if I could but my CR-V is still going strong after 15 years and 364,000km (that's as far as the moon!). It's reached the point where I just want to keep on driving it just to see how far it can go.

Tesla's range is perfect, you would never need more then that as one has to stop after a few hours of driving. You could do a fast recharge while taking a break. Perfect The Leaf is a bit on the low end, not bad for what we use it for, but not perfect. Talking about photos, Feng, which one is you on the picture?? And Jim in the above post, which one is you on the picture?? lol (sorry guys, it was just begging to be asked...)

I expect we will have to wait for the official launch to get the real pricing, but Tesla has tried to keep the markup low in other markets. This blog post here explains the China pricing and the story is similar for Europe. With a bit of luck it will be only twice as much as I can afford, rather than 4 times Leigh

I doubt we'll see a Tesla Model S here before Oct or Nov at the earliest. Reservation holders have been pushing for updates since the start of the year and have nothing. The pre-sales guy has just arrived last week in Sydney to start setting up the "Gallery" store where you can look at an S before ordering online. People ordering in Countries where it's available right now are looking at Delivery times of August so there's no way we can get cars before then. Mind you getting a car will set you back a minimum of $120,000 by all the very educated speculation on the tesla motors forum.
It's a great car but $120K!? And we won't even have the Superchargers like they do in the US or Norway.

I'm just thinking: If the model S uses CHAdeMO that could be a good thing for us as it will create more demand. The downside is if you have to wait for a model S, with the big battery, you could be there for a couple of hours.

I don't mean we won't have superchargers (although that is a possibility) I just mean we won't have as many. In the US and Europe they have the numbers of sales to justify lots of superchargers and the population to have them to cover the whole of the Country. Here we'll be lucky to have some to cover the East routes like Brisbane to Sydney and down to Melbourne. Then maybe one or two in WA for the south of Perth tourist routes. But at a cost of $500K Tesla would be mad to put in that many.

Heh, you have to pay extra to get the "Supercharger" function enabled to use that adaptor. Glad DC charging comes as standard on the Leaf.

Glad DC charging comes as standard on the Leaf. no it doesn't in the USA CHAdeMO is a optional extra on the LEAF, just like "supercharging", you need to need to compare American apples to American oranges. and the USA model of the tesla model s can use CHAdeMO with a the adapter but i don't think the European model S can.

Wow, they really do turn everything into an option extra in the USA. I wonder if the windscreen is included on the base model.

Tesla site now has the design studio up so you put together your car www.teslamotors.com/en_AU/models/designPeople have already pulled aprt the page source on the tesla forum and found pricing but it's probably just a bit of old code from the us site. Here it is though for info: \"base_price\":94900.00,\"price_book_name\":\"AU 2013 JULY\",\"options\":{\"COL1\": \"base_price\":105400.00,\"price_book_name\":\"AU 2013 JULY\",\"options\":{\"COL0\" Seem to fit the reasonableness test. Having a guess at matching the add-ons to codes many of them seem to be 1:1 with US pricing, with a few exceptions where Aust is a little higher. e.g. SU01 priced at $950 would seem to be the subzero package etc {\"price_indicator\":\"Included\",\"price\":0.00,\"list_price\":0.00,\"is_defaul t\":true},\"AU01\":{\"price_indicator\":\"Optional\",\"price\":950.00,\"list_pri ce\":950.00,\"is_default\":false},\"SU01\":

Great pricing. We generally pay a 50% premium to greedy manufacturer/importers, so it is great to see lineball with the US.
I hope they sell well, might even consider one in a few year if they stay at that pricing
