Prior to the 1,000 km service, we had five phone numbers entered in the car phonebook.
After the service, it seemed that these had been ' wiped '. I suspect that this happened when the 12 volt battery terminals were removed and cleaned.
This would suggest that there is no' back up ' small battery to retain ' memory '.
Has anyone else experienced this ?

We had our 1000km service done yesterday, I'll check to see if the numbers are still present. I know the phones are still paired.
UPDATE - okay had a look.
At first the phonebook and history were greyed out so I thought they were wiped, but then I paired my phone and the buttons were available again and still worked. This includes VEHICLE PHONEBOOK so it's not just looking at my phone.
I turned BlueTooth off on my phone so it couldn't connect and the buttons were greyed out again.
So have a look at that, make sure you are paired and check again. My call history and phone books are intact.

Thanks for that - I will check it out. Likewise, the tyre situation here in the West . . . we wouldn't want to end up ' grounded '.

It just occurred to me, the buttons were greyed out because without a paired phone I couldn't make a call anyway. I was somehow trying to figure out why the numbers would only be active in this situation but that makes perfect sense!
