Whilst I live in an urban environment with 3 Chargepoints within 10km, my concern has been going outside these areas. The Clipper Creek compact chargers ECS-15,16,20 have a 15/20 amp plug and 3KG in weight. i.e. easy to take with you. There is I believe a simple solution in small towns and even big towns/cities that have no official chargepoints. In many and most rural towns, certainly in Qld, councils allow people to use the local showgrounds for camping/caravans. some are free others have an honesty box. e.g. Maryborough $15/night. Given that a 4 hour park up with power doesnt use facilities etc, maybe $5 into the box will cover power. On the subject of power my sparkie noted that the outlets in Showgrounds are at minimum a full 15-20 amp and a lot have 32 amp connectors for rides etc. There are many websites for free camping that list these showgrounds and other powered facilities in towns across Australia. ozcamps.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=29I for one, driving from the Sunshine coast to say Bundaberg will need a top up on the way, this would seem a good option. Maybe a 3-4 hour layover seems a lot of time, but to me its not a big issue. For myself I am going to contact a few councils and ask about the 'green friendly' option of using the showground facilities for EV charging. Just a thought for those with range anxiety.. Cheers

Stewart, us in NSW have been trying to organise a meetup (with me coming from Maitland and the rest from Sydney) and Feng has been negotiating with caravan parks on the Central Coast to allow us to charge up there. Prices ranged from $10 to $35. We can do this with the trickle charger supplied with the LEAF, though it would be quicker if we had something which drew more power.

Thanks Phoebe, the trickle charger is a bit slow, thats why the true 15amp L2 charger is a better option for a top up. I think that the council showgrounds may be an easy option. I am also exploring with the owners of large shopping centres, Lend Lease, to look at EV fast chargers to enhance their green credentials and also make another reason for people to shop there. Waiting to hear back. Would love for this Brisbane startup www.veefil.com/ to get a leg up in this sort of position. Paul from Tritium maker of Veefi,l is looking overseas, but in Oz the cost to a large group such as Stocklands, Westfield etc would be minimal.
