With reference to the last three posts in this thread, one frustration I have with our Leaf is the clunky business of coiling and uncoiling the charging cable and getting it back after use into the crappy carry bag in the boot (a definite design fail/afterthought in my view).
I have in mind building a rain-proof box around the charging outlet next to our driveway and leaving the cable coiled in there, unless I know I will need it on a trip. It would only be necessary to extend it a couple of metres when charging. I am aware that there are situations where having a live power cable coiled is advised against, but believe the active current on the trickle charge would not give rise to issues of that sort. In normal use it is partly coiled anyway - I assume other users don't extend it fully when charging - only as far as they need to.
Do other members have any good tricks/advice about managing the cable, and/or advice on the electrical safety issue?

I've had my LEAF nearly 4 years and use the cable in the bag all the time for charging. After a very short time you develop a knack of how to fold and unfold it and it is no problem. It has to be about three quarters unfurled to reach from my power point to my LEAF and I always put it away in the bag when I have finished.

I bought a Volt EVSE which doubles as a holder when you wall mount it. If you're going to use the supplied EVSE then knowing the over under coiling technique is useful for keeping it tidy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yPcJD7RVuY

Using the charger that came with the car was a pain in the neck for me. I bought a clipper creek unit which is mounted to the wall. I hated taking the charger that came with the car out and putting it away again each day. Now it takes me 3 seconds to take the plug out of the holster and put it in the car. So much better and the charger can stay in the boot where it belongs. I also have 1 and a half times faster charging which I really need because I often have to use the car again at night.
