Mark, there is another leaf in Bexley (Feng), but it is not the fast colour like ours I am interested in getting roof racks. What brand/model do you have Let's see who's faster when you've got your roof racks on! Here's a relevant video, although it's to do with ICE cars: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uAjX5hm9cIIn metric it translates to a 127km loss of range at 104km/h with a 60L fuel tank while driving with roof racks on. That's pretty severe!

The thule mounting is the 754. The actual bar part is the aero bars. I believe you need to buy multiple parts including the bar and mounting (foot pack), and possibly other parts. I didn't have any visibility of this as I got them with my car as one of the accessory options when I bought the car from Steve Jarvin. So I'd say your best bet is to go to Steve Jarvin and tell them what you want. Someone there must know what you need and be able to help.

That's pretty severe! I completely agree Feng the roof racks will only be mounted when I need them and straight away removed afterwards. I could tell that something was wrong the first time I drove the car because the KWh/Km quickly rose to like .18 or .19. Since I removed them the numbers are down to .15. I do a fair bit of 80Km driving and this was particularly bad with the roof racks.

Phoebe, I've seen the other thread and would like to come. So I've been trying to organise things so that I could bring my family with me, but I've been having some difficulties, and I wanted to sort them out before committing. But I guess I can say this: I would like to come, and though it's too early to say if I can bring the Fam, I at least, will be there.

Got my LEAF today, very happy. In fact its as I always beleived a car should be, smooth efficient and quiet. Love it Stewart, congratulations. I'm sure you're loving it. Nissan really have done an excellent job haven't they. Is the CC charger working OK with it? Do you intend to take it on trips too? Speaking of which, now that you have wheels, have you been hit up to go on the Central coast drive? Happy (electric) motoring, Mark

I just realised that I have completely taken over this thread. If it wasn't for Feng I'd be the only one to post on this page. Maybe I should let someone else do some talking. I guess I'm just really enjoying my Leaf and am very excited by it, and there are only so many times I can tell my wife, friends and co-workers how much I love it!!! I'll try and control myself now. Cheers, Mark

Mark, you've only done 31 posts altogether This is no. 311 for me. Brian's done 231, Ducan 208 and of course our Adminstrator, Jim, has done 341. I wouldn't worry about dominating the Forum, yet awhile ;D

Why do people buy the LEAF ? One reason is if they teach sustainability. Edith Cowen University, Joondalup campus, Western Australia have one, with some pretty neat custom decalling -

Hey, that looks great, Mike. Certainly, the public couldn't miss it.
I think Nissan marketing have missed a great promotional opportunity for the LEAF, because I, for one, and I suspect many other LEAF owners, would be happy to proclaim their all-electric vehicle much more noticeably than the very discreet ' zero emmissions ' icon.
For example, an expensive optional extra is the ' electric ' decal. If Nissan offered this option for free to those who wanted it, they would effectively get mobile bill-boards for their product, and owners who would be only too happy to promote it.
In W.A., one of the demo cars was decalled-up prominently with ' power plugs ', all electric, zero emmissions, etc.. The buyer was offered the option of having the decals removed prior to delivery, but declined, saying he was very happy to take the car ' as-is '.
If I had a new business, I would be very happy to have unlimited numbers of people running around advertising the product for free.

Hey Mike,
Looks fantastic! Have fun in Frankfurt and let us know how much the EV market has evolved.

my Reasons for not buying a LEAF ... yet forums.aeva.asn.au/portable-rcd-with-15a-to-10a-mains-plug-conversion_topic3595.html?KW=leafA) 6.6kW charging B) heavier steering C) slightly more range 200km - Japanese rating D) darker upholstery E) Bose energy efficient stereo, similar to volt F) more boot space, due to inverter combined with motor and moved to front G) no more engine rocker cover trying to make the leaf look like a conventional engine bay H) stronger regen I) less rare earth metals... battery warranty 3 years vs 5 years for i-MiEV 8 years for Volt, but volt only uses 10kWh of its 16.5 kWh battery capacity

Yes, I offered Nissan space to print their larger logos on the wrap (for a fee) but they were not interested. They said it already had badges on the car. I guess they had a point but more exposure is always good. Hopefully new UN climate findings will push things along a bit.

g4qber, you are a masochist, denying yourself the joy and pleasure of driving a LEAF now, by inventing reasons to wait. Meanwhile, the rest of us are loving our LEAFs - as you surely know.

yes that would be interesting. In particular, does the navigation require a carwings subscription to work? It certainly does require the "OK" to be pressed before nav operates

Reasons - multiple - energy independence and able to effectively charge by renewables, zero emissions (it's arguably not green because of the embodied energy and resources required) not at the whim of manipulated pricing, technologically advanced, no longer need to burn money (oil) and hence let it be used for synthetics/medicine production etc, no longer supporting a country that either forbids women driving or chops hands off for thieves, and holds barbaric public beheadings.

By green to do you mean zero impact? Trying to understand your statement about it not being "green" (which I interpret as friendly) because of the embodied energy/resources.
I see the LEAF as an incredibly "green" car that required some resources to originally be made. But over its lifespan this would be minimal compared to producing and running a petrol engine for 9 years.

Absolutely Jim. Many anti-green campaigns will launch upon a green expression. It is greener. No doubt. But it doest no compare to public transport and using feet when considering the amount of energy and resource required to build the product. Compared to FFB / ICE it is humoungously greener! If one converted an old FFB / ICE it would be saving the embodied energy in the "classic" car.

Ref. public transport - Buses. At max passengers, on a per passenger basis they may use less resources and embedded energy. But that is where the benefits stop. Thereafter they guzzles Fossil Fuel at one end, and pump out CO2 and particulates at the other. All too often I have seen buses carrying less passengers than a LEAF could.
Trains / trams. If these were powered by renewable energy generated electricity, your argument might hold - but not when the electricity comes from burning coal. I dream of the day when the trains are powered by, for example, concentrated solar thermal.
