Not wanting to miss an opportunity to promote EVs, the other day I offered our local member of the house of representatives a lift from A to B in our LEAF, a 20 minute ride. He was ' blown away '. Whilst he had some awareness of hybrids, he had no knowledge of pure electric plug-ins. The acceleration had his jaw dropping. At the end, he stated how impressed he was with every aspect of the car. It made me wonder how many of his fellow members had a similar level of ignorance on EVs. It might also partly explain why Australia has no subsidies for EVs, such as they have in the U.S. and U.K.. Spread the love, brothers and sisters

Hha.
yeah, right. But even most of the car sales man don't know much about that, either.
The Mitsubishi guy I took for a spin in the Imiev was hell bend for me needing a three phase power point to charge it at home...

Those sales guys would originally have been recruited to sell Fossil Fuel Burners, which would have been their whole back ground.
A few days ' Makey-Learney ' EV sales course can not equip them for a whole new way of doing business. I suspect some of them are ambivalent about EVs, anyway.
But, at the same time, I acknowledge the few that have adapted enthusistically and increased their knowledge in this new field of motoring.
As time progresses, we can hope to see salespeople who sell EVs from the begining of their careers, and are suitably knowledgeable.

Hi Brian,
yeah, mate. Nothing new. But most of the ones I dealt with didn't know much about the ICE cars they were wanting to sell, either...

I have to say the person with the least understanding and non promoting of EV's was a local, no LEAF, Nissan salesman who was so rude and wrong I nearly gave up. He basically made out we were idiots for wanting one, some statements, "the lithium in the batteries was dug out of amazon rainforests", the power we use is from coal burning that is worse than petrol' and finally "you are greener driving a V8 petrol than driving a LEAF". Could not beleive he worked for Nissan.

Point 1. We've got lithium lying around over here in the West - so no need to dig up rainforests.
Point 2. Even using coal-generated electricity, due to their efficient energy conversion, EVs are stll cleaner than I.C.E.s.
Point 3. I would invite that "sales " man to fill his petrol tank, drive his V8 into his garage, close the garage door, keep the engine running, and stay in the driver's seat. If he survived for three hours, I would invite him to repeat the process with a LEAF, and then see if he stuck with his statement. In the process, it is highly likely that he would qualify for a Darwin award, before getting a chance to test the LEAF.
