I tried unsuccessfully to connect an OBDII device to my Leaf and Android mobile via Bluetooth. It will not connect to Leafspy no matter what.
So stupidly I got an OBDII device with a WiFi connection. It connects to my phone but I get a message like "Connected no data". Sure enough just like the bluetooth one it will not connect to Leafspy.
I found some info on the web about setting it to static IP addresses etc but it makes no difference. There's nothing on YouTube, they just skate over it. Any thoughts guys??
By the way the WiFi one screws up you phone's WiFi connection. You have to reconnect it to your home WiFi everytime you stop using the OBDII device.

Sorry Lombard I didn't reply to your other post when you were troubleshooting your Bluetooth dongle. I'm not too familiar using the wi-fi version. What problem were you having with the Bluetooth one? When it was plugged in and your car was turned on, could your phone see the device under Settings -> Bluetooth -> Available Devices? (might be different on your phone) and could you get as far as pairing it?
I'll out and about tomorrow and might be able to swing by Ryde later in the day. Can't guarantee at this stage, see how housework goes.

could you get as far as pairing it? Not all of them can pair; the 4.X LE devices don't pair, but connect using a different Bluetooth option in settings. Bluetooth (and WiFi) OBD II dongles seem to be a baptism of fire; there are so many ways that the process can go wrong. The biggest problem seems to be the cheap dongles that don't implement all the commands, but respond in such a way that indicates that they do (i.e. they lie about their capabilities). It can certainly be frustrating. Even now with my 4.X LE, it sometimes takes a long time to get it to connect, and just once so far it refused to connect at all. But once it connects, it seems fine for the rest of the day.

Thanks for your response. In both cases (BT & WiFi) it sees the dongle and connects/pairs to the phone but NOT to Leafspy. I have tried multiple phones, settings. I thought the WiFi version was better quality than the BT one. It's depressing.

What brand and model are your dongles? Both are generic and just have ELM327 and OBDII written on them.

Both are generic and just have ELM327 and OBDII written on them. Sadly, that's likely the problem. Unfortunately, "ELM327" these days really only means "some attempt has been made to have this dongle be ELM327 compatible", and they likely won't work with LeafSpy. For reasons not known to me, LeafSpy seems to need a lot more command support than say Torque Pro.
