Hello folks. Just joined. Looking to buy a 2012 Leaf with 20k and 11 battery bars. I read there are concerns with battery degradation in hot conditions in the 2012 model, and that warranty is up to 5 years or 200k, if it goes below 9 bars. (https://www.nissan.com.au/owners/owner-information/warranty) So pretty sure I'd be out of that. Does anyone know how much a 2012 battery replacement (hopefully for the more robust battery) costs? If so where would you go in Sydney to get that done? Great to see a nice little forum like this! Seb Read more: ozleaf.proboards.com/conversation/811#ixzz5t9NKEGeT

Copying from other thread with information on 2012 leaf. *Warranty for a 2012 leaf is 3 years or 100kms (e.g. slow battery degradation to 8 bars or less). *Manufacturing defect warranty is 5 years or 100km (e.g. quick loss of battery to something like 5 bars). *Battery exchange program is $9990 minus gst and install. Used to be $30k. *Only approved dealership in Sydney is southern city in zetland. Guy on the phone claimed not to know anything about hot weather causing fast degradation of battery in 2011/2012 models reported in US, and confirmed chemical make up of battery is the same as the US. So don’t understand why Australia would not implement the same replacement program if they have the same problem. I guess it would be easy to make the point in an Australian court of law. It’s not like it don’t get hot in Australia. New leaf will come with 9 years warranty, but new batteries from exchange program keep same warranty from same leaf model. Hi Seb,
Welcome to the forum. Some of those numbers look a bit off (not doubting you, we're just used to clueless salespeople). As far as I know the first gen's battery has a flat 5y/100,000km warranty for losing four capacity bars and the new gen's battery is 8y/160,000km for the same. The 3y warranty is for the rest of the first gen car, not sure what the second gen has.

This is what the Nissan customer service guy told me when I gave him the VIN number for the 2012 leaf I am looking at. So it’s as good information as I could gather, from the horses mouth so to speak.
