I've been thinking about changing the reduction gear oil since I've just passed 100,000kms. The maintenance schedule doesn't say anything about when to change it but there are some posts on the MNL forum from owners who have done similar milage who had it done. The fluid that comes out is black compared to red when new and the magnetic plug is gunked up with metallic shavings. Here are some pictures to demonstrate (taken from this thread). The problem I now have is the recommended fluid is Nissan Matic S which is only availble in 20L drums from Nissan spares. I suppose I could ask the Nissan dealer how much it'll cost when they do my battery. Anyone got any thoughts on the matter? Am I just being neurotic as usual?

Mine most recent service did include a check of the reduction gear oil level but no mention of any top up or replacement.

I had my reduction gear fluid changed the other week while I was replacing the brake fluid. I used Nulon Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid Low Viscosity which meets Matic S standards. At 150k the colour of the old fluid was slightly darker compared to new but didn't appear any thicker. The magnetic bolts also collected a little metal residue but not as much as other photos I've seen. After changing the fluid there was no noticeable increase in range.
It wasn't really necessary but if you're planning to do very high kays it might be worth considering just for the peace of mind.
