That Marlborough charger location looks like a spot remote enough that you could be really grateful to find a charger. I got caught short on the M7 once, bit heavy on the throttle & had to divert to a power point at the back of the Blacktown council chambers. Pretty creepy neighbourhood at 11pm. Sitting there in the dark for an hour at 10amps your mind wanders. 'Sydney man knifed at charging station' I kept thinking.

Two more this week.. 16 in the last few months, impressive Carmila, long Marlborough stretch is well covered now.. Hmmm. Marlborough to Carmilla is too far for me (Route distance: 131.97 km) and probably most LEAFs. I wonder if there are plans to cater for LEAFs etc.

I wonder if there are plans to cater for LEAFs etc. There's a good chance that in a couple of years the 24kWh Leaf will be the only short range EV on the roads in Australia. I think they are already outnumbered by the Tesla Model S and X, and when the Zoe, new Leaf, Ioniq and Model 3 are set to arrive in force over the next 18 months, we will become a smaller and smaller minority. Fast charge network owners/operators will be building their networks to allow for these newer vehicles which have a 150-200 km+ range. We will have to make do with 15A and/or J1772 outlets for the occasional "in-between" top up. Perhaps time our overnight stops to co-incide with the middle of these gaps? However.. Plugshare doesn't show anything in this area at all.. yet! Do any locals want to visit the Tooloomba Creek Road House (orange circle) or Clareview Beach Holiday Park? (pink circle)

There was a stall representing the Qld EV highway at the Noosa EV Expo, and they told me that there were plans to do some infill chargers, as in a second stage. I asked about a fast charger for the northern end of Brisbane.

Hi Liz, from sunny France, the state government mentioned more funding for the fill in places in the coming FY budget. They are also changing the government Qfleet to EVs where possible. Had to queue this morning to get a recharge, lots of EVs here..

Yes, I'm keen to hear the in-fill locations. It is quite rare to meet another EV at a charging station here on the Sunshine Coast.

I likewise would be overjoyed to discover the location of the other proposed locations if you know a way to extract information from the lost causes in Queensland politics and the bureaucracy.

Back in oz in two weeks, will give the ministers office a call. Taking my Zoe for a long run this weekend, many more charge points for the mennekes plugs here. My two French EVs in Brittany

I was told by the project manager at EDQ that it would be late July but I popped in there yesterday and it looks a while off so possibly August... his words were: "The QR Helensvale car parks are expected to be finished by end of July 2018. Yurika would then do the install. I suspect that would be about 4-6 weeks or so depending on accessing the site." (June 5th 2018)

I've made dozens of calls to all and sundry regarding Helensvale. Nobody in TMR can say anything more than 'huh' (typical bureaucracy) and neither the minister's nor the shadow minister's office is any more switched on.
Helensvale will be a big move forward if / when its completed. Have you used the Toll / Tesla single phase charger at Molendinar ? That works fine with the Gelco 3 pin 15 amp adaptor and a regular EVSE although its far from a chademo. Runaway Bay Marina also has a Tesla (3 phase) but last time I tried that it wouldn't work due to the weird J1772 issue I have since resolved ..... will have another try next week. I believe I'm on the track of a 32 amp 3 phase outlet near Robina but can't confirm it for a couple of weeks. (hence my plan on getting a Setec) Other than those and the Coolangatta airport, there doesn't appear much in the way of quick charge options on the Gold Coast. Brisbane isn't any better with only UQ and Hamilton and apart from the South Brisbane site that I have yet to check out, no accessible 3 phase discovered as yet. Pity about the Brisbane BMW chademo, although surely it will need to be replaced so they can charge their i3s. I see the palachook government going on about stage two of the Electric Highway although so far its all political spiel with no action.
Some RACQ spokesperson hinted at something happening from their perspective, hopefully its not simply a J1772 at Eight Mile Plains that is only accessible in business hours. Its high time the RACQ stopped pandering to the lycra set and too an interest in EVs.

I'll gladly accept any fast chargers that become available, but that won't delay my search for other options. Anything that the Queensland government gets its paws on is certain to long-winded regardless of who is in the box seat, although regardless of the colour jersey they wear, I'd expect Frecklington to do a better job than the palachook. Maybe most first generation EV owners don't push the boundaries as far as I do, which would account for the lack of interest in 24 x 7 fast charging. Six hour trips between Brisbane and the Gold Coast don't excite me a lot.

Let's give the current Qld government credit for putting in the existing electric highway, and committing funding for the second phase. The previous government was notably anti-renewables and environmental regulation, and I doubt there would now be the electric highway if they'd stayed in power. I'm very keen to hear about the next lot of locations too, but at least it is on its way.

Has anyone tried using the Electric Highway Tritium chademo /CCS charger at Coolangatta airport ? The cables are extremely short and it is impossible to connect a Minicab without parking side-on. The cables are probably OK for a Leaf or any other EV with the connector in a comparable position but I suepect anyone else would experience problems. Its not a problem with all Tritium chargers, at least the Yarrabilba unit has decent length cables and I believe the now removed one that used to live at Brisbane BMW also had decent length cables.

Had a few weeks with my French Renault Zoe, was great, never felt range anxiety as there are so many options. Of interest, on all the autoroutes, paid high speed 130kmh motorways in France, every 40-60km there are service stations, each now has a rack of rapid chargers, approximately €2.50 per full charge. Great when petrol is about $2.30oz a litre.

"Do any locals want to visit the Tooloomba Creek Road House (orange circle) or Clareview Beach Holiday Park? (pink circle) :)" I will be traveling that way in my LEAF soon. I will need to stop at both Tooloomba and Clareview. Each time only for a top up if I fill up (going either way) before I try the gap. Are these stops already EV friendly?

The Rockhampton CHAdeMo is out of action and has been for about a month. I have notified Origin several times. Hope it won't be too long.
I have a CCS to J1772 adapter coming in a week or two so if I get stuck in Rocky again I will have some way out.
I want to do some (LEAF) touring during this summer. It is bloody hot here (Sapphire) inland.

Jeff, I'm a bit confused what you mean: "CCS to J1772 adaptor". Do you mean Type-2 (Mennekes) to Type-1 (J1772)? CCS is a DC standard, so there is no way to convert it to J1772 (AC) easily. Cheers, Mark

I'll be testing it out in the new year.

I made some enquires with EDQ about the Helensvale and Rockhampton chargers and they replied with the following: “I have requested the latest from Yurika on both your enquiries, and although they are chasing up both issues, there are no firm dates to share with you. They have advised that the licencing agreements are holding back installation from starting at Helensvale, and the recurring fault at Rockhampton is being delved into in further detail with potential warranty implications to take up with the manufacturer.”

Helensvale is disappointing, I thought it was something to do with the shopping centre, but not sure. I know Yurika has been chasing Efacec for repair of the Rockhampton station. But I don't know who is the agent in Australia.

I was at Helensvale today, and the Chargers are almost done . That's very exciting because Coolangatta is pretty far south on the Coast, so Helensvale is much more convenient for a lot of people like me. It's on the side of the Train Station, as soon as you pull into the carpark. The furthest carpark away from everything, which is good - will reduce ICEing. It's the entrance where the Von Bibra Car Dealership is. EDIT: It was already on Plugshare, but only showing one Type 2 plug, so I updated that and added my pictures.

Helensvale is operational (fencing is gone) . I haven't used it myself, but Chargepoint shows someone was there a few hours ago in a Leaf.
