I always assumed that the Leaf didn't have a spare tire. Anyway, I found out, in a quite embarrassing way, yesterday... Somehow managed to drive over the curb on the edge of my driveway and got stuck Called RACT.. because I'm a member and it's free, and I didn't want to screw up any more than I already had. Anyway, they got me sorted, in the process managed to pop a tire. Anyway, I had never located the spare, but apparently it is here, hanging under the rear of the car! The bottom of the boot needs to be lifted and there is a bit nut and bolt that looses the cage so it lowers down. (note: yes there was a tire - space saver only - I took this pic later on after it had already been removed!) The dead one: And the spare in place. Fortunately, it's not going to cost me anything (sort of) since my car is under a novated lease and tires are included. I needed new ones anyway. It's just a pain to sort out. Now the question is, does anyone have any recommendations for tires? I'm not a car person, priorities are safety, energy efficiency obviously. My lease provider prefers Bridgestone, I think, if that makes a difference. I'll call first thing tomorrow so I probably haven't left much time, but any comments may be welcome for others in the future!

If you go to Search and put 'tyre' in the place for thread titles, you will find there have been a number of threads answering your question in some detail, but there is only yours under 'tire'

Take some comfort from the fact that I had the curb mishap twice soon after I got my LEAF but then I learned to steer away from curbs

The timing of this post is uncanny - I took a chunk out of my sidewall on Saturday, down to the reinforcing fabric. No leak but certainly not safe to drive (for any great distance, or speed). I knew the Leaf had a spare, so I lowered the cage and took it out, discovering it was a space saver (I shouldn't be surprised). Since we live close to a tyre place, rather than put the spare on, I just drove the Leaf over and they whacked on a new Bridgestone within a couple of hours. $140 thank you very much. They rotated one of the back tyres to the front passenger (the damaged one) and put the new tyre on the back, so that the driving tyres have identical tread. FYI - if you drive the Leaf with the spare tyre cage empty (but screwed in) it still rattles a lot!!

Heh, I've had that little guy on about 5 times! We eventually replaced all the tyres with more durable ones as the ECO ones split too easily.

Well you're going to laugh... but only a few days after taking a chunk out of the front passenger tyre side wall, we did it again. Luckily because they put the new tyre on the back, it wasn't damaged. So back to the tyre place very embarrassed, they replaced the second tyre and put both new ones on the front and the originals are now on the back. They then upsold us to tyre insurance, only $11 per tyre allegedly for life. Got us when we were weak

Just rotated my tyres myself since I don't plan to service my car until it needs a pink slip next year. I used the spare in the process and it was reading 20PSI instead of the recommended 60PSI. Better to check your spare once in a while than find out the hard way that it's flat when you need it. Either that or have a backup plan or portable air compressor in your car.
