I have a red leaf 2012 Build bought new in Dec 2015 ..I was assured by the salesman that all servicing and warranty could be done locally in Port Macquarie but after much to and fro Nissan do not want to help and it looks like a long journey to get to an authorised dealer ..any ideas??

Hi Stuart, welcome to the forum. That sucks! So your local Nissan dealer is no help at all? You should complain on the Nissan Australia Facebook page just so they know you were lied to by a salesman.
Are you okay with driving ~240km to Kloster Nissan in Newcastle?

You get a free cup of coffee at Kloster Nissan in Newcastle, while you are waiting - not sure if that's much compensation from so far away, Stuart. I'm in Maitland and had to go to Sydney when I first had my LEAF. It was a great relief to me when Kloster Nissan in Newcastle were authorised to service the LEAF. I know they have someone who comes down from Tamworth. Good Luck

Welcome to Liz and my life, long drive with stops to charge to get service. Actually got called an idiot by the local Nissan dealer for thinking they would service my car. Then they rubbished the car into the floor, saying it was only greenies like me that believed they were helping the environment. Rudest people I have met.

If that happened to me I would report the dealer to Nissan HQ and make sure they knew about it. And then I'd tell them that when they're all out of a job in 10 years because Tesla and other upstarts have eaten their lunch we'll be having the last laugh. And we will be laughing loud and long. Troglodytes.

I second that suggestion. Nissan HQ should know they have dealers who don't toe the party line.
Must be nice to be a Tesla owner and not feel like you're being treated like a second class citizen by a dealer.

Did report it to national office. Never heard anything back. Our French LEAF gets serviced at Lorient Nissan, free Chademo Rapid charger, fresh coffee and croissants. Superb company. Mind you they also have about 8 LEAFs on the floor new.

BTW don't worry about it at all. It's outside of warranty (not that that matters either), just take it to any competent local mechanic.
Mechanically and electrically they are exactly like any hatchback. It's only the high voltage system (battery, motor, charge controller) that is in any way different to any other car, and those systems have been generally very reliable and need exactly the same regular maintenance as your vacuum cleaner and toaster (ie, none). A local shop might be concerned at first but once they check if out they will be fine....just don't touch the orange stuff!
If you do get a high voltage failure there will be some sort of warning light and you will need to transport it to a nissan approved dealer, or find a local mechanic brave enough to work from the workshop manual (freely available from the US)
