I've called Nissan and registered - no emails/letters yet though. Anyone had anything since the first email on this topic?

I asked the same at December end. I've heard nothing further. I'm going to give it another week, then a call may be prudent. I'll report back here.

Just got an email from Nissan Aus, it seems the fix is ready to go in.
Dear David,
We recently sent you a communication regarding the Telstra shut down of the 2G Network across Australia on the 1st of December 2016.
Our records show that a vehicle you own VIN JN1F**** is affected by this change.
With this Network closure, the 2G Telematics Control Unit (TCU) in your vehicle will no longer be able to receive or transmit a 2G signal. As such, the CarWings application on your phone will no longer be able to remotely communicate with the TCU fitted within your Nissan LEAF.
Please note that the regular driving operation of your Nissan LEAF is unaffected by the 2G Network closure.
To ensure your CarWings application continues to operate, Nissan Australia will replace the 2G TCU with a 3G-compatible TCU, at no cost to you. This replacement will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. Please contact your Zero Emissions Nissan Dealer to arrange this update.
Please note that you must book your vehicle in with an authorised Zero Emissions Nissan Dealership for this update. If you bring in your vehicle without an appointment there may be a delay in getting your vehicle updated.

Got my email too and I just happen to have my car booked for a service this week. Going to find out if I can get it done at the same time, otherwise I'll postpone until it becomes available. Of couse I'll report my experience here.
Looking forward to having it back. A few times I would manually change the charge timer so it won't charge to 100% more than necessary.

Got an email that the TCU can be replaced now. I have rung the dealer and the parts are being ordered in.

I got the email this morning as well. The car hasn't been serviced since I've owned it (May 2016) so booked it in for a service this Friday (DJ Nissan Hobart) and asked if the 3G upgrade can be done at the same time.
I was told the service specialist is on leave but is back on Thursday. They'll call me on Thursday with a status (if they have to order parts). I'll either delay the service or bring it back in when the part arrives.

I booked for the upgrade and the dealer suggested upgrade on or after 2nd February to make sure parts are available.
Although the email said it will take only 40 mins for the upgrade but the dealer said they are fully booked and asked me to leave the car for the whole day.

Parts are ordered and they want to keep the car the whole day. They will contact me once the parts arrive to book the car in.

My car now has a 3G modem in it but it won't authenticate with Carwings. I think something has to be done at Nissan's end so an email with details has been sent. Hoping for a prompt reply.

Wow, that's super quick turn around time. Hope my parts turn up soon at the dealership. According to Transport Evolved's Chanel on Youtube, after the 3G modem upgrade, there is a 48 hour delay before it registers as the system needs time to update to the new vehicle details. Keep us posted.

Are you the first to get the 3G TCU Feng? Yes Nicki's Leaf started communicating with the new TCU a couple of days later. I guess the Nissan servers have to be updated with the new ID number of the 3G TCU before anything works. It's a shame they can't do that before they install the TCU.

I don't think I'm the first, there was another LEAF in the yard when I showed up and two others when I went to pick it up. Nice to know they have so many go through there so they're not completely clueless about servicing LEAFs. Just a shame they didn't fix my suspension/steering noise nor air conditioner. It looks pretty involved to service the A/C compressor judging by the service manual so they probably didn't want to do it. I haven't decided on what to do about the problems yet.

Try a standard air conditioning specialist. The air conditioning is really no different from an ICE car except that the compressor is electric. They will have the tools to diagnose, check pressures, coolant level etc.

Yeah I'll definitely check pressures and do my homework before resorting to pulling out the compressor, which is what you need to do if the lubricant needs changing.
Carwings is half working now. I can authenticate with my car and download updated charging stations, but I'm unable to query my state of charge nor start my air conditioner. On my phone and on the owners portal. No reply from Nissan yet.

Had the 3G TCU installed yesterday. The parts took overnight to get to dealer. Although the email from Nissan said 40 minutes to install, the dealer took a few hours. Haven't tested yet though....

My new 3G unit is not working after leaving the dealer! Error message says "need to create Carwings account". Ugh! Dissappointing.

Error message says "need to create Carwings account". Ugh! Dissappointing. My Leaf is booked in Thursday week to have the TCU replaced. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the dealer (SJN in my case) to show me that Carwings is configured and working before I leave. I do remember though that when I bought my Leaf, Carwings was not configured in the car with username and password. I had to find those out from the Owners Portal - I posted a detailed step-by-step how-to in another thread. The minimum requirement is that the dealer has created a Carwings account with your email address. If that is done, you can find out the rest of the details and set it up yourself.

My upgrade has been rescheduled from last Friday to this Friday (27th).
The service tech said they would need the car "most of the day" (this is for a service as well as the 3G TCU)
I'm going to record the login/password I have entered into the car currently and print them out so they can enter them straight after the replacement.

Car is booked in for next Tuesday afternoon. They said they will need about 3 hours due to my car being one of the first they will be working on. They did ask for me to bring along my CarWings details so that they can test it out. (Sounds promising)
I will print out my email from Nissan Australia regarding my CarWings login details to make sure there are no unnecessary delays.

Relevant post from Matthew Tse (one of you?) on Nissan's Facebook page: Well that's Feng's avatar... and I note he has 995 posts, so about to be the second (I think) to hit 1000 posts after Phoebe achieved the feat last year.

Yes, he's even passed Jim Hare on 971, who set up this whole thing. Feng, who we all called Matt, when we met on the Central Coast, is now a moderator here, very important person :-) If I don't watch out he'll pass me, too, in the number of posts!

Hardly important! I just offered to help Jim out with keeping spammers off the forum since he's not around as often as he used to be.
Time flies since getting my LEAF but I'm still a keen owner and enjoy sharing the enthusiasm with new owners here. Maybe I'm a bit too keen sometimes.

Dropped mine off at DJ Nissan Hobart today. They said they did one earlier this week which worked straight away without an issue!

Colour me cynical but did they get the customer to use the app in front of them to check? My car authenticates with Carwings and I can download charging stations and RSS feeds with it, but I can't use the portal or app to communicate with my car.

Just picked mine up. Provided Carwings login and password when I dropped it off... Checked the settings, they hadn't entered them... So I did... and get the message "To use Carwings service, you need to create an account"... so need to look into what else needs to be done. Better not take as long as when I bought the car On the upside, the TCU ID and SIM ID have changed so they did actually replace the unit
