I've virtually never used anything other than the EVSE from my boot in the 4 years I've had my LEAF, and I can assure you you develop a knack with it after a while and then it is no problem.

Hi g4gber, that is interesting. I can see from the description it is weatherproof. There is a bit that says, "automatic cleat to prevent accidental disconnection". I'm wondering whether that stops purposeful disconnection, as I'd be concerned about this converter wandering off. Will the car charge at the usual 15 amp plug rate with one of these converters? I just don't know enough about the ins and outs of electricity to know.

not sure about security. I too was about to buy one, but it probably would look too attractive for theives, hence I use a sparky constructed 3 phase to 15 amp cable. I would assume the unit would be able to provide 15 amps. I presume you know that the nissan EVSE only draws 10 amps even though it has a 15 amp plug. Just found one at super cheap auto. Perhaps best to check to see if suitable and return if not. www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Ampfibian-Three-Phase-Adaptor-TP-32/SPO3647236

I have a good electrician who can knock up a three phase to 15 amp socket if you need one Liz.

Will the car charge at the usual 15 amp plug rate with one of these converters? It's hard to tell from the photo whether you could also padlock the captive flap on the adaptor - but if you could then you could padlock the EVSE to the car and padlock the adaptor to the EVSE to prevent purposeful disconnection as well. Getting a bit fiddly though. And yes, the car will still only charge at 10A. It needs the signalling from a wall-mounted charger to charge at 15A.

Any possibility of attaching a small locker beside the 3 phase or on the shed so the adapter and/or EVSE can be kept secured? A nondescript wall cabinet would draw a lot less attention like this: Attachments:

Fantastic news!! Will you use the Nissan supplied EVSE or a separate one? Is the socket 15A or 10A? If 10A, with Nissan EVSE, you'll need to buy an adaptor such as the Ampfibian (and since you're outside, you'll need the weatherproof one). Maybe you're totally across that You can prevent unplugging at the J-1772 end by buying a small padlock that fits through the small hole in the trigger of the J-1772 gun. With the padlock inserted, it's not possible to depress the trigger to remove the gun. However if you are just plugging into a 10A or 15A GPO, then you can obviously be unplugged at that end unless it is inside a lockable enclosure. And apropos one of my earlier posts... I gently suggest you to think about a "Plan B" for the return journey just in case something goes wrong during the day, e.g. the circuit breaker on the Ampfibian trips for some reason before your car is sufficiently charged (and you discover this too late), or someone unplugs you, etc. Obviously you hope you never need a "Plan B", but it's better to be prepared and know exactly what to do if you need to charge elsewhere on the way home just to make it back. Checking charge status during the day with the Nissan EV app is a good idea but that will only work for 7 more weeks - Telstra is turning 2G off on the 1st December. Once 2G is off, we all no longer have "connected cars" Hi Evangelist, I'm using the Nissan supplied EVSE from my boot, although getting it in and out every day is a bit painful compared to my wall-mounted Holden Volt one in my carport. I've used it twice now, and the groundsman is unplugging at the wall when he leaves at 2.30 and locks the shed. I have a padlock for the car end that I should start to use. My father lives nearby, so that could be my back-up plan. I'm concerned that my cord might be a bit of an inconvenience for the grounds/facilities guys, although they've been super helpful to me. The only other possible charging point is the unused dental van spot, but that is 3-phase, so would need some sort of converter. It was lovely to get back to driving my Leaf for the last few days. My husband needed the petrol car for a Bris trip on Thursday, so it all happened just in time. Have you taught the groundsman to recognise when the car has finished charging? Also, are you charging to 100% or 80%?

The groundsman unplugs the car when he finishes work at 2.30, but it would finish recharging sometime earlier. I charge to 100% all the time, given that my total range is only 90-100km. I've never had more range than that, even when I had the full twelve bars for the first year. I've now driven 30 000 km in the last year and a half.
It is lucky that I've been able to recharge at work and hence drive the Leaf to work, as our petrol car broke down on Monday and may be a week or two before it gets fixed. Wrangling a family of five between two workplaces at different ends of the Sunshine Coast and three drivers is taking some management. My husband has taken to riding his bike to work.

I can't recall - did you reserve a Model 3? If so you must be itching for that day to arrive...
