Although I have lots to do, there is nothing actually tied down yet. Your location will determine what sort of visit it will be and maybe I'll end up doing a circuit catching up with with a few in one day. Jeff 0447 114 496 jeffj@Jeffswalk.com

I arrived safely at my brother's place in Stockton yesterday afternoon and very pleased with myself for undertaking the journey and establishing charging points along the way. And being (sorta) forced to take the breaks to charge and wander around the towns seeing the sights and meeting the locals. My original plan was to return to Queensland along the same route (after a week or 3), but I am now considering going back via the New England Highway. This would open up a new batch of charging places and raising awareness of EVs in general. From here (Stockton) I will make day trips to friends and acquaintances all of which are within one charge distances. Maitland, Nelson Bay, Swansea and two others that I have to contact for exact addresses. I will include two trips to amateur radio clubs where I expect the interest in the LEAF to be 'hot'. The image is of Newcastle CBD across the Hunter River from Bill's place. View Attachment

This is great. All we have to do is to get you to drive all over Australia logging charge points and we can all drive anywhere.

I will accept donations for overnight caravan park fees (just kidding [sorta]). I am fully retired and love traveling around and don't mind living rough(ish). I even slept two nights in the LEAF (and I am 6ft). When I am in Sydney I will do a trip out west to Grenfell so will be establishing a charging point or two along the way.

We are overdue for a Sydney LEAF meet up, sounds like a great opportunity to put something together. Do we try for lunch at Strathfield Chademo? Might it be working the day we pick?

How about the Goulburn St car park where there are four 15A outlets (providing none are ICEd)? Chatswood where there are two J1772 and we can take turns?
Last time when we met at Strathfield it was a bit fiddly juggling cars around the one charger. Not that everyone needed a charge, but it was cool to do that. I wonder if that's the most use it has ever seen?

I even slept two nights in the LEAF (and I am 6ft). How was the sleeps? Comfortable? I started thinking trips with 2 adults and 2 children sleeping in the LEAF while charging in caravan park.

I even slept two nights in the LEAF (and I am 6ft). How was the sleeps? Comfortable? I started thinking trips with 2 adults and 2 children sleeping in the LEAF while charging in caravan park. I was on my own and in the drivers seat well back and laid back. I had a pillow and although I turned a bit, it was not much more than a normal night for me. If it was longer term, I would set up the tent and blow up mattress that I am carrying. Convenience overcame more (relative) comfort. I have traveled a lot, including half way around Oz in a Kombi Van with a wife, 4 small children and my mother. I wish you well trying your trek in the LEAF. Keep us in touch:-).

Plenty of space to park at Chatswood too. I've not yet seen more than a couple of cars parked in any of the spots up there on the roof under the solar panels.

I might follow in your footsteps when I retire. I've still got 10 years to go so I hope I will be able to do it in an EV with at least twice the range. I hope that 309 k leaf isn't just hype.

Safe to say Chatswood would be my choice, since I'm local! I think the J1772s are a much more elegant solution than running our portable chargers. Always plenty of room on the carpark roof, especially where the chargers are plus parking is free for 3 hours (2 included + 1 with free validation inside Westfield.) Tons of places to grab a coffee or lunch. Thoughts? How about the Goulburn St car park where there are four 15A outlets (providing none are ICEd)? So is Sunday still happening? Let's say midday at the Westfield solar canopy? I'm not familiar with what's available in the area so I'll leave it to someone else to decide for food. At the moment I count Jim, Cachexian, Jeff and myself. Hopefully there will be others, but it doesn't have to be a big thing. I might even bring Ayla along this time since she missed out last year.

I got to Sydney late yesterday after an interesting (charging) day on the way down from Stockton. We (brother Bill and I) left Stockton at 7am to give give us plenty of time on the Central Coast for our long 'day' charge. The planning showed that it was 100km to Tumbi Umbi and another 100km from there to Manly.
Kimberley (gabzimiev) told me of the charger at the Sun Valley caravan park right next to my planned stop at Tumbi so I chose that charger over a power point at Tumbi as it would be somewhat faster. As it turned out, my friends at Tumbi were overseas so I just dropped into Tumbi Tyres and said my hellos to the staff there. I know most of them.
The Stockton - Manly leg was also modified to catch up with two friends we grew up with (lived in our street) in the (approx) 1950 era. We picked up one from Woy Woy station (came from Blacktown) and on to Ettalong for a leisurely lunch and several hours of charge in the garage. The Blacktown friend stayed overnight at Ettalong and I dropped Bill off back at Woy Woy station for his return train/ferry ride back home to Stockton.
The drive out of Woy Woy to Sydney is, well, hilly. I planned for a full charge out of Tumbi but settled for about 80% from Ettalong as it was a tad shorter and Bill caught a train at 4pm. I closely monitored navigator klms to destination relative to GOM worrying each time I climbed a long hill and relaxing (a bit) down the other side. I also closely watched GOM plus ODO and compared that to my original GOM of 130. This told me how much I could believe the GOM (I'll expand on this if someone wants me to).
When I got off the M1 the navigator appeared to be taking me through Chatswood (my guess by klms to next left turn) but was also warning me of long delays because of a burst water main in Chatswood. So I turned off at Mona Vale road (I lived in Sydney for a long time) and proceeded to select the wrong lane several (many) times and being forced to turn when I didn't want to.
Unfamiliar territory, heavy traffic (I am used to open paddocks and dodging cows:-), low GOM, driving a new car (toy) and the navigator constantly telling me to do something about the battery low SOC. Each climb reduced the GOM to below distance to go and each roll down the other side got it back again.
Anyhow, I got to sister Diane's place with 7klms on the GOM.
I will be at the Chatswood meeting place around 11am and have a look around.

Please expand on this. I've noticed it too but haven't actually done calculations to see how the GOM relates to actual km consumed on the odometer.

The drive out of Woy Woy to Sydney is, well, hilly. It's a question of where those hills are, I think. I find I can go much further when I am travelling away from Sydney to Maitland than when travelling to Sydney from Maitland, about 30 kms!
