Just passed 72,000km. Is a 2012 model bought new from Moorooka Nissan.
Battery is not what it used to be - down to 9 bars now.
I'm a bit suspect of the bar rating tbh. 9 bars out of 12 is 75%, so it is reasonable to expect capacity and range would be 75% of what was available new, but its not.
When the Leaf was new it display 170km after a full charge and I'd get 160km of real world range. While the display shows 115km now after a full charge (67%), I'm lucky to get 80km out of it now (53% real world).
Everytime I raise this during a service at Moorooka Nissan they say they cannot do anything until it drops another bar.
Service guy basically said I have to wait for another bar to drop and if that happens before warranty ends the pack is replaced for free, otherwise I have to pay for a replacement pack myself...

Hello mrb,
Welcome to the forum. Do you know if it could be a bad cell? There's an owner in Canberra whose Leaf is down two or three bars and he only gets ~65kms on a charge. He's not happy about that and his local Nissan dealer isn't much help. Leslie here had something similar happen to his but he had other problems associated with his range loss.
Do you know how balanced your pack is and how to balance it? Supposedly leaving the car plugged in for four hours after a full charged will let it balance. Hope it's as simple as that.

Not so, 9 bars of 12 is 75% of 12 bars, but bar 12 represents 15% capacity, the others about 7.5% each, so bars 10-12 represent 30% approx. So your 67% is about right...

I have passed 130,000 km (15,000 km on the new battery). Today I went to Byron bay (but the Veefil 3 phase is disconnected), so I charged at the macadamia Castle, then went home. I am getting 100km easy doing 90km/h on the freeway. I drove from Cleveland to Coolangatta DC charger with 2 segments available. It filled to 80% pretty fast, I restarted and filled to 95%. On the way back I had the aircon on 23 degrees (was on while charging, so I left it on). Traffic was slow (60 km/h) for the first 10km.

91,000 kms so far. My LEAF has a new battery under warranty though. Hi Richard, as part of the very special club with a new battery, can you tell us what your range is? Particularly for highway driving? Another question: do you know whether your new battery had the better more heat-resistant lizard chemistry? I've just reached 60k km, and am down 3 bars, with a range of 85-90km. Fingers crossed that I'll end up getting a new battery under warranty.

I've done 55000km after a little over 3 years, so apart from the battery, the car is out of warranty. I still have 11 bars (lost the first bar at 25000km), so it doesn't look like I will end up getting a new battery under warranty.
My question is, should I bother continue taking the car back to Nissan for scheduled servicing, for the small chance that I may need to call on the battery warranty?

Lesmando24 - so jealous seeing 12 bars! Our Leaf is a little over 3 years old now, we have done 33,000 km and lost 2 bars. We use it only for city commuting and runabouts hence not a lot of distance. Like everyone else, if we drop a 4th bar, we desperately hope it happens within the 5 years. It will be touch-and-go.
But even if it doesn't, under Australian Consumer Law, if the 4th bar is dropped not that long after the 5th year you could still argue for warranty replacement because it comes down to expectations of what a reasonable lifetime is for a product, and the cost of that product (in this case, a battery that costs somewhere around $8000) is actually a very significant and relevant factor in any decision making by a Fair Trading tribunal. Manufacturers can't simply point to the black letters of the warranty and wash their hands of any responsibility.
As to how much time after the 5th year you could still mount a case is a judgment call - I would suspect for a product that costs that much, 3 months almost certainly, 6 months possibly, 1 year maybe not so much. But I don't really know what the law says and what precedents exist.

Manufactured August 2012. I purchased in May 2016 - had 28795 km on it, an average of 632 km per month. As of January 2018 (20 months), we have added 19443 km to this total, for an average of 964 km per month. Lifetime total of 48238 km. Currently 10/12 bars SOH. Longest distance travelled in one day - 323.6 km. (Included one DC charging session @ 22 kW) Longest distance travelled in one day without DC charging - 290.6 km. It's been a lot of fun, and plenty more to come

Just passed 107,000km, waiting for my new battery to arrive. The dealer originally said a month around six weeks ago, now they're saying end of Feb. I'm in no hurry. Even though I'm down four bars I can still manage at least 100km with the air con running. I feel like I'm cheating to get a new battery, but I wouldn't turn down that opportunity!

I'm up to 46,287 kms and lost our 1st bar in early 2016 and haven't lost our 2nd yet. I think we got the car in Dec 2013 so I don't think we'll be getting a new battery under warranty. Still very happy with the leaf though and don't really feel to restricted any more as lots of chargers have popped up now. I think we still get about 130 kms range but we never really test it out rather charge up when down to 3 or 4 bars and usually to a full charge but use it straight away.

Had the car for about 2 years now as 3rd owners. We have added 54000kms to make it 80000kms to date, still on 10 bars for now.

Yes we do about 70-80 per day, sometimes 100. Probably used fast chargers less than 10 times. Not really required for us as most of the driving is in the Perth metro area.

Lost my third bar overnight at 66960 km. Still have 18 months before 5 years battery warranty expires.
It is quite possible getting the battery replaced under warranty in a year.
This is first time I felt happy about losing a capacity bar.

Nearly at 78,000 kms. Still only two bars down. I have noticed less range in recent drives but still enough for the daily needs.

I hit 140,000km last week. Car is going happily. I need to replace the front strut top bearings, as they have become noisy. And perhaps the left hand mirror, as it shudders when it opens.

I'm going to ask my mechanic friend to tighten my nuts first and if the noise is still there I'll get it lubricated. I was going to edit that sentence to take out any innuendo but that would spoil the fun.

141k kms in imiev Wonder if I hold the record in Australia for an imiev ? That sounds likely, yeah. How's the battery degradation going with it? Any future plans?

Odd that with EvBatMon PMC (percentage of manufacturer’s capacity) went from 95.21% down to 89.58% since December last year But just this week Went back to 91.46%

And still 12 bars on your (new-ish) battery... jealous! The most I’ve ever done on any car I’ve owned is 190,000 km and that took me 20 years. At 140,000km and 12 bars your LEAF is good until end-of-life I reckon.
