Two points on batteries - 1. There are batteries available today with twice the energy density of our standard LithiumIons ( Called Lithium Cobalt something somethings - great, but they are also twice the price - at the moment ) 2. If, after 10 years, our LEAF's batteries have 75% capacity, which should still give a range of 120 kms, that will still fulfill our needs, albeit possibly with some rare inconvenience. But by then, there are likely to be far more Level 3 charge points around, so it just might mean stopping for coffee more frequently to top up And on servicing, I have to thank Magic Nissan, Melville, WA - they just did our 6 month / 10,000 km service for $ 66, as opposed to the scheduled charge of $ 88 Good on 'em.

Duncan, it's not that I think the current battery will end up as landfill, it will absolutely have a home after the LEAF, be it powering the house or otherwise.
I was mainly saying asking for the replacement cost of the current pack isn't constructive because after the warranty is up I would bet anything we aren't using the same batteries and they won't cost nearly what they do today.
In other words, if Nissan answered your question and said $20k, that doesn't represent what it will be in 5-10 years so it would do more harm than good.
The first flux capacitor needed Plutonium, the improved version (Mr.Fusion) ran on household garbage.
Hover car plus time machine - now were talking! ;-)

Bob Herbert.I should last about 20 years battery life at my rate of Kms traveled.3,278 Kms in just over 12 months.100%charge is still showing 155 Kms on estimation guage. As soon as the car moves it rises to about 175 Kms. I'll need new batteries in my Pacemaker before the Leaf. It's still fun to drive!!!!

Had my 20,000km/1 year service today, even though we've only gone 11,500km. We're a bit late since we've had the LEAF for about 16 months, but meh...
$256 so the most expensive yet.
Clean bill of health, still full capacity on the batteries and everything else doing just fine.

I'm having my 12 months service tomorrow, but I have only done 2,500 kms. Kloster Nissan, Hamilton are charging the standard $255.78 ;D

Had the 30,000km service done today ($86.25). Battery capacity is 12 bars and I got 5 stars for all the categories. I have had my 30,000km service today. The cost was $137.90 but the extra was for the cabin pollen filter which should have been replaced at 20,000km but they didn't have one (so the 20,000km was only $148.18 so I think I'm square). My battery is also 12 bars and all 5 stars. Leigh

Interesting that everyone is getting to the time, not klm, limit for services! I guess these cars are doing less klm than average

In response to Duncan's point, it could be for a couple of reasons - 1. generally EV drivers are more concious of energy and it's conservation, therefore we may not be prone to ' frivolous ' km eating trips. 2. we would not be doing the longer bush trips of the FFBs, which can quickly add to the total kms.

I should really have posted this on Saturday 21st December because that was my one year anniversary with the LEAF! So to date (in one year) we have driven 25530kms, all trouble free.

Congrats Les, do you think you're the record holder in Australia? You've probably saved enough to cover the cost of a new pack already and anything extra is a bonus by now.
Re your Chargepoint in your post, maybe it's worth stowing in a small locker for safety if you're worried about vandalism?
I'm taking mine in for its 30,000km service this Friday. I'm going to be a total dag and wear my LEAF T-shirt.

No idea how much others have travelled. But I have done nothing different to when I owned a corolla. I think my corolla would have used about $6100 in petrol. So have saved a few thousand there.
I have enquired at Morayfield shopping centre. Hopefully they say yes. Then there is a charging station half way between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.
I think I will try to get socket based chargers in the future, then less to be vandalized. Plus they are cheaper.

For sure lesmando24 has the highest amongst us known LEAFErs.
I'm now at 41300km.
Still 12 battery bars. As I've mentioned before with the weather warming up my amp hrs have increased on the LEAFspy app to 61.60.
So around an 8% loss to date. My first bar must almost be about to pop!

I read the blog. You mentioned that "Currently I am using the 2.4KW brick, so using more energy than normal". Do you mean the Nissan EVSE is less energy efficient than a 3.3kW EVSE? Why charging at 10 AMP is use more energy? I am sorry if this has been discussed here but I can't find any discussion about that.

Les, what is the charting application on your blog page?
If you put the charger in a locker, then you could put a key combination lock on it and put the combination on plugshare. This way only people who know what it is for can open it.

That data is the total amount drawn by the charger. Not the energy I put into the battery (I don't have anything to tell me that).
When connected to the 2.4kw evse (brick) the total energy used at the meter is more (have a 15amp portable meter I plug it into). When using the 3.6kw evse, it uses less energy to fill the battery. I am guessing something in the onboard charger is more efficient at the higher wattage. Or maybe running the cooling pumps for longer period increases the total amount used.
The box/cabinet is a good idea, will see what they say.
I use an application called 'road trip' (iOS). You can change the fuel units between kWh/litre/kg/gallon. It can do multiple cars. But it is manual entry based. So I enter the data every fill.
I don't have an android phone, but there is probably a similar app.

Using the car EVSE, I find that the total KWh drawn by the charger varies, perhaps due to the supplied voltage varying. 3 recent charges I metered were showed the following (using Leaf Spy):
Battery KWh 13.3, grid KWh 15.1 (Efficiency 88.1%) Battery KWh 13.4, grid KWh 14.3 (Efficiency 93.7%) Battery KWh 13.3, grid KWh 14.8 (Efficiency 89.9%)
With this amount of variation I can only approximate cost of travel, though per kilometre its still only fractions of a cent difference.
