Thanks Les, do you think that's a better option than the i3 with range extender? Mum does weekly Bne-GC trips... With various destinations in Bne so may not always be able to charge

Something interesting in France, if you buy a new leaf, Nissan will cover hire of an ICE for four weeks to cover long holidays etc. it's a good marketing concept. Given that the west Europe rapid and standard charge network is so extensive, I'm not sure you would need it. But nice to know it's there.

I wish Nissan had adopted range extender option to leaf like i3.

Alex on Autos has a good review of the American version of the i3 Rex. I am not sure if it directly relates to the Australian version. i3 Rex is a very capable car. But if you have a requirement for travelling long distances, the volt has a larger engine (1.4L vs 0.65L) and a bigger fuel tank (i3 has 10L tank), that will keep you sailing along when the battery is low. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jZxVCYwMkE

Depending on what your needs are the Outlander PHEV sounds like better value. It's cheaper and seats five, as long as you don't mind the extra bulk of an SUV.

Hi Caroline It keeps on changing and is a bit of a lottery but your search key words should include: "Can bus" obd2 "elm327 1.5 mini" Not sure about "elm327 2.1" Some of the cheap ones work well but I would stick with Amazon or eBay or similar if you want to return a dud.

But, if they are pulling one out of storage that may not be possible. You would need to make a deposit and have options installed etc, before you even see the car. What options are available? I was told there weren't any? Here are some optionsI got the mud flaps, roof racks, window tinting, car alarm (a waste of money), floor mats. Thought about Leather seats (I think they use seats from a different model Nissan), front park assist, rear park assist (pointless with reversing camera). Check out the link for more. Mark

Impressions of buying a leaf in Australia.
I viewed and test drived leaf at Gold Coast Nissan last Saturday and signed the contract. Regarding options, I might say the mud flaps, roof racks, window tinting, floor mats, rear boot tray are accessorries rather than options. Leather seats (not seat covers), front and rear park assist are options that usually can be installed in the factory. If you want a leaf with these options, it must be back ordered, made in the factory and delivered to you. That is simply impossible in Au at this moment. They are selling leafs of only one batch of one grade brought to Australian shore 3 years ago. That leaves you virually no options to choose.
When I visited my home land Korea last year international EV Expo was being held in beautiful Jeju island which is called Korean Hawaii. I had a chance to drive a leaf. The leaf had B-mode on the shifting knob beside D. The eco mode botton was on the steering wheel. B-mode enabled more aggressive regeneration. Driving in B-mode when I took off my foot from the accelerator the car rapidly lost speed as in engine brake of ICE car, regenerating more electricity. They said B-mode increase range by 10-14% compaired to non B-mode model if my memory is correct. On test drving day I was baffled. I asked "Where the B-mode has gone?" Dealer said " What B-mode? There is no B-mode." Then I realized there may be no B-mode in 2012 leaf.
On buyer's expensewise, I was surprised to find there is no government subsity at all. In korea Ministry of Environment and local government support 40% of all EV car price. On top of that they support equivalent to 7,000 AU$ for installing home EVSE for free. If installing fee goes over $7000 the margin is on the EV owner. Its a shame the government of Australia boasting its clean and beautiful environment and nature turn a blind eye to the EV owners who are trying to take part in preserving precious natural environment in spite of above downsides.

Congratulations on your purchase! Is yours silver? cr12330 posted elsewhere that the one in GC was sold, sounds like it could be yours.
Yes the Eco/B-mode is a newer model thing, we only get Eco which does both at the same time. I hope it's only a matter of time before the tide turns in Australia, it's a little tiring sometimes arguing with people about EVs because they're so uninformed. The more there are on the road the less irrelevant they will be.

That subsidy sound nice might cause a price inflation since you can be installed with a home EVSE over here for under $2000.

I mean government is supporting actual expense to the limit of AU$7,000. That means virtually no expense on the EV owner.

I think you are mistaken about "options" needing to be fitted at the factory. In other countries Leafs are available in differing model numbers, which include options such as Chademo. We didn't have this here. All our cars come with the same basic features. Nevertheless some additional features can be purchased if you wish. I bought mine in late 2013, well after they had delivered all the stock of 2012 models to Australia. So there was no factory modification of the cars during the build phase at all. Nevertheless things like parking sensors were available to me if I wanted them. The only exception was the leather seats, which I believe came from a different Nissan model. I think this was something the dealer could arrange - and involved replacing the original seats. This would not be cheap. But it was definitely available to me. If you have bought a demonstrator model I'd expect the options available to you would be smaller than a new car. This may be where the confusion originates. Having said all that, I couldn't agree more with your comments on our governments poor leadership. Welcome to the forum. Mark

I use this one, it works with LeafSpy Pro, is relatively cheap (price includes shipping) and has WiFi for iOS. If you have an Android phone/tablet you can get one with just bluetooth, which is cheaper. www.banggood.com/ELM327-WiFi-OBD2-Diagnostic-Scanner-Support-IPhone-IPad-Android-p-922993.html

This recommendation isn't a mini size sender by its appearance so you might need to purchase an extension obd2 cable to avoid knocking the sender out of its socket with your knees. An advantage of an extension is that if you need to reset your sender (by pulling it out then replacing) you aren't risking the car socket being damaged.
