Hi all.
Long story but on March 9 I started getting a "T/M System Malfunction Error - Contact Dealer" come up whenever I turned the leaf on. I could still Drive the car normally. After a lot of reading, it turns out the cause is most likely a flat 12v battery. I check the battery, yep it's at 9.6v then shoots to 14.2v when you turn the car on, turn car off and it drops to 12.01v right away. So I charge the 12v battery with a normal battery charger overnight. Next morning it seems to be holding at 12.6v. No error message. 2 days later, error returns and battery shows 8.8v. I book into lennock Nissan in Canberra thinking this should be easy. Long story short, lennock have no clue about this car. They keep the car for 6 days and call me saying the car is ready. I ask if they replaced the battery, they replied they charged her last night. I explained how stupid that was. I pick up the car Friday, error returns the next morning, now on 6.8v!! I go to book the car in again and they are not sure if the 12v battery is covered under warranty and will call me right back.........well after 11 days I gave up waiting for a call so I called them. After 14 phone calls spaced 10 minutes apart I get to talk to the service manager who says there's only a 12 month warranty on the battery and won't be covered. I explained I will be sending a letter of demand. I wrote out a letter of demand and gave clear examples of their illegal business practices and stated that under the Consumer Gaurentee an automotive battery is expected to last 4-6 years and not 2 years 7 months. This means the car was sold with a battery that was not durable, lasting or free from defects for a reasonable length of time. 1 hour later I get a call from the center manager explaining that lennock Nissan will replace my battery for free as a "gesture of good will". So it's good to see that Nissan are willing you stand behind their product, even if it did take a little bit of pushing.
I will keep you updated if I ever get the new 12v battery installed.

Far out, that's a lot of grief. Maybe I'm just soft but if I had to choose between leaving the car at the dealers for over a week or paying for a replacement 12V battery I'd pick the latter. Good on you for sticking to your principles though, I hate it when dealers are shonky. If I ever get that error I'll know what to do!

I would be reporting that to Dean. I don't think Nissan headquarters would be very impressed.

Not sure if I should like that or not.
Just wondering if you should put the letter on the forum so that we can all use it in the future.

Hi. Nissan reluctantly replaced the battery and did find a cell was faulty. Car was error free for.....a few days. Now the error is back and the car is back at Nissan. They have now had the car for 2 days and still no word from them. I'll keep you posted.

Nothing wrong with the main battery. Most likely the 12v battery

If they replaced the 12v battery how can that be the cause of the problem?

so, what was the problem? were you just unlucky with the second battery or was something wrong with the DCDC charger?

Well it's now been another 2 weeks and Lennock Nissan still have no clue how to fix the car. Just got off the phone with Dean asking about a loan car as we were promised a loan LEAF if it was in the shop when we bought the car. Dean has contacted Lennock and the same old story, they have no LEAFs, they have no loan cars and they can't hire a car for me because they have no account to do so.
The TM system error is all over the net and is generally caused by a faulty 12v battery or speed controller. People I the USA usually get it sorted in a week but it's now been a total of 4 weeks!
If they can't fix it, then just replace the car. Simple.
Phillip.

Ok,
So after 5 weeks Nissan have finally found the fault. It was a faulty "electronic shift relay". I picked up the car on Saturday May 23rd. Only to find out that night that the heater and A.C. Don't work at all now. Very dangerous as I couldn't defrost the windscreen. Usually you can see the KW being used by the heater on three touch panel but no matter how hot or cold I set the unit it didn't even register anything.
Oh well, back to Nissan AGAIN!!!! GRRRRR

Hi all,
Well I just heard back from Nissan. The TM error has been fixed but now they have confirmed the heater has now blown up and has been deemed unsafe to drive. Back to our petrol guzzling prius. Hope it isn't another 8 weeks to get fixed

Seems like you've had more problems than everyone else put together! What an unhappy sequence of events to read about, Phil! If that happened to me I'd be soooooo frustrated and asking for a new Leaf under "lemon" laws except I don't think we have them here, and the Leaf stock is nearly exhausted.
Wow Phoebe - 998 posts! Will you be the first in the forum to 1000 posts?

Well!! June 9th I finally got to pick up the LEAF after having the heater fixed. Only to find out that Lennock Nissan failed to re-connect the windscreen washers. This resulted in all the water being pumped within the engine bay...wife was furious at this stage and blasted them....Needless to say they re-connected this and was back on the road in an hour. Now, June 15 2015, everything is going fine (touch wood). But in the meantime Lennock Nissan decided to send us promotional material saying our 3 year warranty is nearly up and tried selling us their third party warranty, you know, the warranty that covers nothing more than the consumer law covers...NO THANKS! Anyway, it's sooooo nice to be back in an electric car!! It was so worth the wait. Made me realise just how rubbish petrol cars are, gutless, changing gears, noisy smelly and expensive to refuel. 1 refill for the prius is 2 months driving in the LEAF. LOVE the LEAF!!!
