My Leaf arrives in about 2 weeks, and getting down to nitty-gritty practicalities. I'll be re-charging in the carport, and my street is a very quiet one, but I think that I would like some way to secure the EVSE so that no-one can remove it during charging. Since reading about the sky-high replacement cost of a Leaf EVSE, it seems better to err on the side of caution.
I think I've read something about using a padlock, or maybe there are other options that others use. Any comments or pics would be appreciated.

Do you have a power point in the carport already? If not it might be worth getting a lockable electrical box installed at the same time as the point. The B&R V10 has guides at the bottom of the door to allow extension cords out. Not sure if it would be big enough for the EVESE lead through. www.brenclosures.com.au/meter_box_qld.htm

When we charged at the Hunter Festival we used padlocks. I don't need anything at home as I have a controlladoor on my garage.

You might also want to get a second cheaper EVSE. We keep our OEM EVSE in the car partly because it's so expensive to leave in the garage (ours is shared). The Volt EVSE is only about $350.

This maybe sounds a bit dumb but I carry my Leaf EVSE wrapped up in one of those green reusable shopping bags behind the 12v battery under the bonnet because I reckon the nifty carrier it comes in takes up too much room in the boot. At public power points I run the J1772 plug out under the closed bonnet to the cars inlet & run an extension lead from the EVSE out under the car to the power point. I keep the extension lead in the car jack compartment. It's a bit time consuming to setup but there is no way anybody can steal your EVSE with it locked in the motor compartment.

What do you attach the padlock to, and is it a particular type or size of padlock?

Hi Chris, I have wondered about the space taken up in the boot by the EVSE case. I would never have thought about keeping the EVSE in the bonnet, I thought it would be too hot or something. I can't quite picture your arrangement for public car charging, but will have another read once I have the car to look at in person.

I don't have a terribly clear memory. I'm sure there is somewhere on the EVSE as one end of the attachment and there are a couple of places on the car to complete the attachment. It wasn't a very big padlock. I'll have a look at it all in the morning and see if I can jog my memory where it all went.

It will be blue. My current Hyundai i30 is also blue, but not quite as nice a shade, according to my 13-year-old. She said that the Leaf is "cool", high praise indeed.

I currently use a 5mm cabled Python lock ( www.masterlock.com.au/products/detail/BikeLocks/PythonCable ) to secure my Clipper Creek EVSE to my house in my driveway. I have placed a couple of eyelets into the weatherboards and secure the Python lock with them. The Python lock could also be used away from home and attached to the front tow hook on the vehicle. The Python is good because the cable can be pulled tight to minimise any slack in the cable. They can be purchased from Bunnings. However, I'm about to get my home fuse box upgraded and have requested an additional B&R enclosure (as suggested by caskings) to house the EVSE for greater security.

Not too hot under there because no fossil burner!

Thank you, a photo makes it so much clearer. I've been using a miniscule padlock through the trigger of the recharging "gun", but it is pretty wimpy. I also bought an adjustable cable from Bunnings, but haven't yet worked out what to tie it to.

The large padlock doesnt stop someone unplugging but it will prevent the removal of the EVSE.

My portable Clipper Creek EVSE secured in an enclosure in my driveway. I placed a small slot in the bottom of the enclosure to enable the unit to be easily removed when required. Attachments:
