Also installing SIM cards so we can monitor the temperatures etc m2mone? Yes, still waiting for them/Telstra to set up the IPSEC VPN so I can grab live data from all the charging stations, but the SIM cards were dispatched overnight and the private network setup within a few days. Impressive.

Perhaps circontrol chargers are not designed to fill a 85kwh battery. That's why we have super chargers.
Circs are designed for cars with possibly max 30kwh batts.

If that were the case it would seem rather short sighted, when in the next few years more and more long range EVs will start to appear. Chevy Bolt is 60kWh, Model 3 will probably start at 60kWh, the other manufacturers will catch up once they realise there's a market for longer range EVs. And much as I like the idea of superchargers everywhere, I'd rather see more CHAdeMO / CCS stations installed around the place because they're not limited to a single make of car. Of course I'm saying that having never used a supercharger because the nearest one is 3400km away...

add AC would fix it.
also direct sun protection is a cheap option too to minimise damage.
it appears 45 degree C heat rating isn't high enough.

In the short term, lets hope they can de-rate the charger to 110A (or lower) to prevent complete failure. Yes I'm in the process of visiting each site to turn down the power to 80A (and am putting pressure on Circontrol for a proper fix because this is ridiculous) Also installing SIM cards so we can monitor the temperatures etc. Tesla charging at 120A (before we turned the power down) Hmmm... I assume the diode is a schottky diode, which means it dissipates 100-ish Watt at 120A. That really is ridiculous. Why not install MOSFET ideal diode instead from the design phase? Uh oh, geeky alert...

If you assume 0.8V voltage drop, which is a bit high for a schottky diode . [Refusing to be beaten here] Some schottky do with that much current (for example MBR120200, after googling schottky randomly). Anyway, I'm a bit naive when saying " why not use MOSFET ideal diode", it's not that simple I'm sure. I've also just found out that schottky doesn't go as high as 500V AND hundreds of Amps at the same time. Looks like they're using generic rectifier diode, which makes it even hotter! I guess bigger heat sink is in order for these fast chargers to accomodate Perth summer...

I finally got to the South West Corner of WA, some 325km from home. The holiday incurred a total travel of 1240km over 10 days thanks to the RAC WA Electric Highway. Attachments:

I have some usage data which may help I've seen 36 unique RFID cards used over the reporting period. I don't know how many EVs there are in WA, but I assume most would know about the Electric Highway by now. Some more usage data from the last 2 months December | total sessions | total energy | unique users | daily sessions | daily energy | location | 113 | 1044.91 kWh | 31 | 3.65 | 33.71 kWh | West Perth | 66 | 809.65 kWh | 12 | 2.13 | 26.12 kWh | Mandurah | 21 | 295.70 kWh | 12 | 0.68 | 9.54 kWh | Bunbury | 20 | 206.41 kWh | 4 | 0.65 | 6.66 kWh | Busselton | 21 | 105.14 kWh | 4 | 0.68 | 3.39 kWh | Margaret River | 2 | 0.02 kWh | 1 | 0.06 | 0.00 kWh | Augusta | 15 | 190.81 kWh | 7 | 0.48 | 6.16 kWh | Harvey | 10 | 7.88 kWh | 4 | 0.32 | 0.25 kWh | Donnybrook | 3 | 83.58 kWh | 3 | 0.10 | 2.70 kWh | Nannup | 18 | 257.11 kWh | 8 | 0.58 | 8.29 kWh | Dunsborough | January | 105 | 1098.62 kWh | 25 | 3.39 | 35.44 kWh | West Perth | 52 | 632.70 kWh | 16 | 1.68 | 20.41 kWh | Mandurah | 31 | 436.86 kWh | 10 | 1.00 | 14.09 kWh | Bunbury | 17 | 280.93 kWh | 9 | 0.55 | 9.06 kWh | Busselton | 34 | 296.76 kWh | 9 | 1.10 | 9.57 kWh | Margaret River | 12 | 94.80 kWh | 5 | 0.39 | 3.06 kWh | Augusta | 27 | 337.70 kWh | 9 | 0.87 | 10.89 kWh | Harvey | 20 | 177.70 kWh | 7 | 0.65 | 5.73 kWh | Donnybrook | 10 | 150.61 kWh | 7 | 0.32 | 4.86 kWh | Nannup | 23 | 376.86 kWh | 9 | 0.74 | 12.16 kWh | Dunsborough |

My work in Brisbane is coming to an end and I've luckily picked up an opportunity in Perth. Now making preparations to relocate and will be shipping the Leaf and Land Cruiser to WA on the train. In Brisbane I've only done fast charging on a novelty basis, but with the RAC Electric Highway I can definitely see using it quite extensively as we will get lots of visitors who will want to visit the Margaret River region. From plugshare, it looks like the second set of DC fast chargers has not yet come online...the Harvey unit looks like the key one to open the region up....it's nail biting 106 km between Mandurah and Bunbury. Is anyone actively using the Electric Highway in a Leaf to tour the Margaret River region? My goal is to give all our visitors the Leaf and send them on their way...and if they want a trill, we can go smashing around in the sand with the autogas burning Land Cruiser. Leaf arrived in Perth in mid-January. Lots of great charging infrastructure in Perth, but I have had to add some weapons to the charging arsenal (3-phase to 15amp adapter and Type 1 to 2 cord). IVentured down to Mandurah for a day trip and quick charger worked great. Will certainly be venturing further soon. Perth may be EV paradise...at least in Oz.

Hi mike
We met briefly the other weekend. You informed me that the ac bollard at Mandurah had no power. I emailed the Mandurah council. council@mandurah.wa.gov.au To reset power.
I'm guessing we shall meet more often soon.

The RAC Electric Highway charging stations will be migrating to the ChargeStar Genie platform from the 14th of March. That means if you haven't registered for a new RFID card in the last couple of days you will need to do so now at ChargeStarExisting Circontrol (or other) branded RFID cards won't work after the migration, however the new cards will work immediately. It will take a couple of weeks for the new cards to arrive once you have registered, so please register by the end of February to ensure your new RFID cards arrive in time.

Meanwhile the Bridgetown charger has been sitting at the electrician's workshop in Bunbury, so it made sense to swap the chargers and repair the Bunbury charger in the workshop. In the meantime there are two more chargers in Perth (one for Fremantle, one spare) that could be dispatched to Bridgetown if the repairs take longer than expected.

Bunbury yesterday (9/9/16) was screen dead and indicator LEDs red.
I recycled the emergency stop button and reset with [OFF] and got the greens. But no screen.
Charged ok (thank goodness). Thanks RACWA for the DCFCs.

Caskings...I had a spare 15amp cable in my garage. I bought a used 3-phase plug from gumtree. A magic elf seems to have joined them together. I can't tell you how that happened. Scoundrel through the other half of my 15amp cable in the wheelie bin. The Type 1 to Type 2 charger was obtained from UW Electrical Engineering department. Attachments:
