Fast charge is not an issue for me, more interested in preserving battery life.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if I even needed our level 2 charger at home!
Feels like I could just as easily made use of the trickle charger since we only ever charge overnight.

That is pretty cool though. Be a great thing to keep in the back of the car for long trips!

That thought occured to me also.
But the weight of 65 kgs would have to be taken into account.

Brian helped me out with regards to tips and using the level 2 charger. Funny thing Jim, a few days after catching up with Btian, and 4 days of possession, I was thinking the only practical advantage is not having to put the level 1 cable back in the car every time. I have a carport, too easy for a neanderthal to nick it without a clue what it is for.

A small hole in the lock / release mechanism on the charge handle permits a small padlock to be inserted. This then prevents the release and loss of the EVSE . . . unless they use bolt cutters and hopefully fry themselves.

Does anyone have a price on these units? We are in the slightly awkward situation of being over 160kms from the nearest "LEAF Equipped" Nissan dealer. Current plan is to truck the LEAF each way every 6 months for the service. I have found places along the way that would happily allow us to charge it up. If we had access to a "quick charge" equipment this would be a much more viable option. Weight is only equivalent to a small person so could easily just load it in the boot for these trips?

Steve you might find one of these useful if you can plug into a 10A outlet along the way to the dealer: www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MS4044. It's been talked about elsewhere on this site, the supplied EVSE only draws around ten amps so it's safe to use as long as you're careful not to trip breakers.

Steve, I saw this somewhere else before, and you could almost buy a car for the price. Where are you located? Mark

I thought that may be the case... We are at Bathurst - so our closest LEAF accredited Nissan dealer is Penrith - 140kms away. Even if we got there (feasible?) there is an 1100m high mountain range to climb on the way home! Although I did get the guessometer up to 193km today....

Wow that's quite out there. I've had some experience with driving to Katoomba after a top up from Penrith Nissan and the 56km uphill hike needs somewhere around 70% of the battery to make it. Katoomba Falls Caravan Park let me plug in for $10 while I wandered around town for a few hours. How flat is the terrain between Katoomba and Bathurst? Would you ever welcome a visit and a charge if I ever tried to go on a roadtrip out to Bathurst in my LEAF?

That charger looks awesome. Be handy when travelling to out of the way places if you can find 32A 3 phase socket, which I do remember seeing at show grounds.
