Is there any Vic LEAF owners who use powershop www.powershop.com.au/ the idea of variable pricing and pre-purchasing is an interesting one. and was wondering if you use them if you can show me a bit more how it works.

I signed up about 2 weeks ago. Just waiting for the actual switchover to happen (up to 10 business days).
I'll see how it goes for a few months.

keep me up to date it seems that for people who keep and eye on / can predict there usage. can get very cheap power by pre-purchasing. looking forward to their expansion into NSW. but it think it depends on if they privatise the network.

any updates on your impressions ? it appears they are doing a beta trail of NSW I've only been connected for 3 weeks but my impression is basically positive. Powershop like to quote a single price/unit (1 unit = 1kWh) for their "powerpacks". The price per unit is set for each customer by a fairly simple calculation based on the kWh/day, percentage of Peak/OffPeak and average daily kWh usage. They use your meter readings (either automatic from smart meters or you can manually read and enter the readings) to estimate how much power you will typically consume to get the price. They then offer a percentage discount off this price depending on the powerpack offer. Typically pre-purchased (i.e. purchased before the billing date) power is 5% cheaper than their default price (which is used to purchase any shortfall at the end of the billing period). Typically at the start of each month they will offer a higher discount for a specific number of "units" as promotions. It appears that their normal billing period is one month rather than one quarter however this may just be my first account period after changing retailers. They have a web site and phone app which gives good visibility into your power usage and account. I think it's about 10-15% cheaper than my old retailer (AGL) but I need to have a larger sample size to be accurate. So far so good! Leigh

I saw this post and switched. I was cranky with my current mob so this looked like a good opportunity to jump ship. Working it out on the site I feel I should save 25% at a minimum from the deal I was on. They gave me $75 credit for switching to cover the $75 I will probably pay to leave AGL. I have to wait the 10 days for the transfer to take effect though.

I just wish Powershop and some of the other interesting retailers in Victoria would turn up in SEQ. We could really do with a shake up here. That and I really want to dump the retailers that have been pushing dilution of the RET.

In nsw to change providers you have to wait until your next meter read (every 96 days) . So I am not sure if that is sarcasm.

I'm in Vic and we've been with Powershop for about 6 mths now. Our 2kw PV system is fairly old so we have a premium feed in tariff (66c/kWh), consequently, our account is always in credit. We still purchase 'green power packs' in advance using the credit in our account. The whole Powershop setup works well.

Gabz, thanks for making me aware of the Powershop EV offer. Unfortunately, it's not available to current Powershop customers - darn! Is great though that they are promoting the growth of Evs. They are also have a Tesla and a few electric bikes around Melb advertising their company. Cheers
