Hey Feng I just got an OB2 dongle looks just like yours. Trouble is it crashes the Leaf CAN when I plug it in (driver display reports I-key problem & blanks range digits). I'm using the port under the steering column, that's the correct one?

Yeah that's the one. That's odd, I haven't seen it do that before. What happens if you plug it in and then turn the car on?

Same thing alas. I notice there is a little surface mount led on the dongle under the blue plastic. Does yours light up when you plug it in? Mine doesn't.

Yes it does. You might be looking at a defective dongle sorry.

What I get for going the cheapie I guess Feng. I mean it's not as though I have big expenses like gasoline for instance.

kris,
I got the one Feng recommended, and it works a treat for me. Speedy no BS delivery. Why muck around. Get that one.

Wow, I can't believe that worked. Would cost at least $5 to ship it here slow boat.
I'll let you know if anything actually arrives and use the cost savings to buy an Android device!

Jim, it's insidious isn't it - this pressure to go Android. Next thing they will come up with cheap internet TV - no doubt connected to Chrome somehow. But seriously you may need to think about getting a car mounting kit too. I use an old tablet for running Leafspy and connecting to the blue-tooth dongle. But I also use it for my dash cam (in case someone runs into me), and an alternate navigator - when it's just too hard for the Leaf's navigator. Enjoy, Mark

Thanks Mark, though I don't think I'd need it to be omnipresent, so wouldn't mount it permanently. Just nice to check in once in a while and see how it is doing.

Heh, I COULD have made a wise crack about not mounting the Android permanently as not to ugly up my beautiful LEAF, but I constrained myself. See how diplomatic I can be?

Ouch! You've (somehow) found the one problem with my approach. It does look ugly - damn it! Not helped by the fact the mount is from an old 7" Tab which I "adapted" to a new(er) 7" Tab.

New Feng style dongle works! To my great surprise my trusty old Galaxy S2 streams audio to the Leaf & displays LeafSpy data from the OBDII simultaneously. Dual bluetoothing!

Waiting for my Feng Style Dongle to arrive. Can't complain since it was $6 including shipping from Asia! Now to get an Android device of some kind... I'll let you know when I find one for $6, can't be too far away!

Heh, Apple developer conference starts in a few hours. I'm sure the Google engineers will be in the audience to learn where to take Android in about two years from now!

Well if people can hijack this thread with dongle posts, I can get it back towards batteries.
Been away for 15 days. Left and there was 77 on the GOM, 75 when I got back. I can live with that.

I've honestly never understood why we should be worried about leaving them sitting a few days. across battery technologies there are plenty of them that sit around for a year or more without a charge and have no problems.
I'd also be interested to know how many 2 year old Leafs Oz Nissan has sitting around without charging on a runway somewhere...I'll bet they aren't being charged regularly

But I'd say they pull the safety switch (between the front and rear seats on the floor) and remove the Service battery. As long as they do this the traction pack should be good for years. Jack Rickard has cells he's been storing since 2008, and every 6 months he'll pull a couple out and check them. They never show any measurable deterioration, or even any self-discharge. If Nissan leave the Lead acid service battery in, even disconnected, it my not fair so well. I've never understood why they would use a lead acid service battery, instead of Lithium. Mark

I'm really interested in how to store an EV. I will be leaving my Renault Zoe in the garage in France for up to 9 months. Given the same technology as the LEAF I assume the same process. While I'm over there I will have someone driving the LEAF here but not the other way around.

I find that if I switch the LEAF off and then back on again, the GOM seems to drop a 1-2 kms each time. It seems a bit scary... I was thinking that it may draw a huge current on start up but that does not make sense. I hope it is just the GOM mis-estimating. It would probably still estimate 77 if you hadn't turned it on 1 way to find out is via the LEAF mobile app, just do a status request without powering the car up.

$7 seems to be the going rate. That's what I paid for mine and I think Feng has one of the $7 as well. I haven't tried mine yet since I don't have an Android device.

I almost look forward to wearing out my battery so I can enjoy a new one in a few years!
The person who posted the video said in the Youtube comments that the replacement pack piggy backs off the existing battery warranty so once you swap it, you don't get a new warranty to go with it.
I spotted a few mistakes in his video: That plug which he thinks is an adapter is just the service plug with a huge fuse inside it. The parts manager was wrong when he said the box contained the exposed battery when the photos showed the case of a new battery. There's also some uncertainty in the comments over what he said about more efficient battery cooling in the new battery when all other sources say it's improved chemistry that makes it more heat resistant.

Did anyone else just get a letter from Nissan about free capacity loss coverage? The warranty is now 5 years or 100,000km against anything below 9 bars. Pretty cool. I forget what it was before but sure it wasn't this. Good news for those of us across the Tasman; I checked in with my local Nissan sales consultant, and he reports that "Battery warranty on NZ new leaf is now 5 years confirmed".

My LEAF just lost the 2nd capacity bar.
The letter image on this thread is gone. Can anyone upload the letter again?
When can we claim the battery warranty? Lost 3 bars (i.e., 9 bars left) or 4 (i.e., 8 bars left)?
I receive my car (all new) on 20/9/2014. At this rate, I will definitely lost 3 bars and very likely 4 before the battery warranty expired.
