do the map lights stay on until the 12VDC battery goes flat or the globe blows?
this seems to happen on the imiev and volt

Sorry, never tried. So with the EV switched off, the map light stays on ? Will check when I next see our car.

They should go off by themselves after a few minutes when you exit the vehicle. If you lock the car they should go off straight away.
If not then you, may have them turned on manually. There are two ways to do that. The switch between them and by pressing the lights themselves. Make sure you dont have then on manually and they should work as expected.

what about pressing upwards guys? i.e. manual turn on.
on a Golf even after pressing upwards the lights go off eventually. this is not the case I believe with the volt, leaf & imiev.

It could take a long time for the 12 volt battery to go flat with the map light left on, because when the LEAFs 12 volt battery drops to a certain level, it automaically gets ' topped up ' by the main, Lithium Ion batteries.
I don't know if this happens with the iMiev or other EVs. But obviously with an FFB, you only have one battery, and no electrical back up, or starting handle . . . anybody remember them ?

That's odd, it suggests that the iMiev only charges the 12v when the car is on. Otherwise how does it recharge without an alternator?

I think, even when left on manually, the light will go off eventually. Nothing bad happened. My son loves pushing buttons, and it's happened to me a few times.
