Gosh Mark, that was a hassle. Glad you kept your cool. I have a sad little story to tell. On the way into the Caravan Park I was so far away from the gizmo that I had to get out of my car to key in the numbers and my car screamed at me as it was turned on with door open. To avoid this coming out I got much closer so I could reach the numbers from inside my car. It seems I got too close 'cos I've now got a nasty scratch along my car. I was not aware of it at the time (one of the hazards of being deaf), but it must have been then because it's not there in any of the photos and I didn't stop at all on the way home.

I think touch up paint would fix it but I've never worked out ebay. What would I be looking for? Is it specifically for Nissan or just white car paint?

Sorry to here that Phoebe, I always get a bit depressed when that has happened to me. And it's not like there is anything you can do to stop it from happening. If there was you'd have done it. These things are all one-off occurrences. The only thing you can do to minimise these things is to take your time, and not let things fluster you. Today coming in to work it was drizzling and there were not many parking spots, and what there were were difficult and I was trying to work out what I would do. A motorbike which had been behind me flew past with the rider shaking his head, as if to say "you silly old slow poke". It really annoyed me. Would he have me drive in quickly potentially causing carnage, for what? So he can avoid being held up for 30 seconds. I'm sorry it doesn't work that way. One good thing about EVs I observed on our outing yesterday: They makes us into better drivers. We tend to drive more within the speed limits, and slower in general. And we leave a nice gap to traffic in front. I know you'll still be sad about the scrape on your beautifully car. But you need to know that some of us think your an excellent person, and you are making the world a better place. And when one one of us gets hurt or inconvinienced in some way, and yet still presses on. Well I just have to take my hat off to you. Hope this helps, Mark

Don't think I'm flustered, Mark. My problem is my LEAF insurance has to be renewed and how can I say it is undamaged with this obvious scratch on it. I have a had a small knock before, but I was able to clean that up well enough so it doesn't hit you in the eye, and I'd be happy to tell the insurance co it is undamaged. I've cleaned this one up too, but it's still obvious. I'm going to have to find some paint from somewhere. The only paint I can find on ebay is metallic and doesn't come in white.

Phoebe you can get the paint code off your VIN plate in the engine bay, it will be a 3 digit code. Mine (black) was KH3. With that you can get any decent auto shop to sort you out some touch up paint...
I'd know....I shut the garage door on our front bumper....
Speaking of road behaviour, Mark and I had an idiot at the end of the old Pac. I was going about 60 in an 80 zone due to the battery situation, and there was a bike behind who was being patient. The Pulsar behind the bike however was flashing lights and carrying on, and in the end Mark pulled aside to let them past. A little bit of patience goes a long way.
BTW we got locked into the carpark at Hornsby near the betterplace charger....it seems the gates close at 6 and the security goes home at the same time....

Actually the interweb delivers. The white paint code is:
Glacier White (QAK)

Actually the interweb delivers. The white paint code is: Glacier White (QAK) I'll be passing an auto shop in the morning. I'll see what I can do, but it says QX1 on the car. While I was there I found it was built in April 2012.

Now I am confused. The colour number on my car is QX1, which I have now learned from the website Feng sent me to, is White Pearl. But I thought my car was Glacier White which Duncan says is QAK. Anyone who thought white was easy was wrong

Did you get any further with the paint? This will either help or add to the confusion: www.nissanreference.com/leaf. 2011/12 models used QX1, "Glacier Pearl" and 2013 is QAK, "Glacier White". If you look at the American website, both colour options are available. My guess is Nissan Australia is being confusing and is passing off the older model and associated paint name as the newer 2013 model. Even the brochure has "Glacier White/QX1" listed!

Definitely follow what it says on the car Phoebe!
I have had the opposite problem previously, where one paint code (KH3) had different names on different models. Ultimately it is the paint code that is unique.

My local auto shop mixed up QX1, dipped in a spatula and put it next to the car and it looked OK so now I just have to do the work. 2 spray cans, ground paint and top paint and I have to rub back the area into a rectangle first - lot of work Here is a happy me, before my LEAF got scratched.

Good luck with the touching up!
My dad backed Evie into a concrete pillar last night which left more tiny chips in the rear bumper, got some touching up of my own to do too!

Looks good Phoebe! You can barely see it, I had to squint and move my head from side to side to make it out.

Yep Duncan, I think I'll be the same and it really hits me in the eye if I make the mistake of walking past with my glasses on

Which proves my point that the inventor of glasses is responsible for the increased divorce rate. Previously, as you aged, nature ensured that you didn't see your partner's increasing wrinkles. Well, that's my theory, anyway.

Hi, I joined this forum last year before I bought my Leaf, but this is my first post. Thanks to everyone for making this a lively and informative forum, you've all helped make my Leaf experience much better.
My Leaf has done 130k's/day since I bought it last October, and has been a great car. I have only 1 complaint to make and cannot find anyone else who has experienced my problem. I find the Leaf impossible to wash clean. My other car is 30 years old, has done 500,000k's and drives on the same roads as my Leaf. I wash both cars every 3 to 4 weeks with warm water, ArmorAll Wash & Wax car suds, and a sponge. All the insects and road grime wash straight off my old diesel Merc but stick solid on my Leaf.
I have the QX1 "Glacier Pearl" paint which looked brilliant for the first couple of weeks, but now I just can't clean it. Is there some secret suds I should be using? Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks, Richard

Welcome to the forum Richard. My LEAF is white too. My eyes aren't very good these days, but I don't have any problems and I only use water and a soft brush.

Hi Phoebe, thanks for the reply. I'm booked in to my local Nissan dealer here in Cessnock on Wednesday so they can have a look at the finish. Hopefully I'm just using the wrong suds!

Does it just need wax to protect the paint? You could try using automotive clay to scrape off surface contaminants. I went all out with car care products on my Honda in January and it still looks clean two months later. Waxing really does help prevent the dirt from sticking to the paint.

Are you sure they'll know anything about paint care? When I bought my LEAF it came with complimentary paint swirls from the dealer. Looking forward to buffing them off next long weekend.

Hi Feng, thanks for the car care kit tip, I'll make enquiries. Not sure about what Nissan will make of my paint. I've got a pretty good feeling they'll tell me there is nothing wrong and to just rub harder or something.
Phoebe, I know from your posts that you were near Maitland. It was reading many of your posts that finally tipped me towards a Leaf! Thanks for that - I'm very grateful.
We're about to install solar PV on our house here in Cessnock, and I seem to remember that you had PV too. I might catch you next on the Solar post!
Cheers, Richard
