Maybe Dean might have some gossip? Anyone spoken to him lately? The last time I mailed him for advice on the meet up I didn't get a reply.

But the 2013 LEAF hasn't been released in Australia so there couldn't be any figures here, yet

If the 2013 is released here in October at the end of the current LEAF promotion expiry and they still have 2012s to clear, and the price is sharper, might just have to grab a second one!

I haven't spoken to Dean for quite a while. I imagine he's quite frustrated by the lack of interest.

Spread the word. Where I am currently sub-contracterd out to, only 1 of the 12 people even new that there were any EVs in Australia! So when I showed them a DIY I had borrowed for a few days they were stunned. And now - they know I've bought one and are keen to seen it! I look forward to returning to my work base next February

That ratio of EV ignorance is probably similar to what many of our Forum members have encountered. We also tend to leave a trail of amazement behind us The attitude of the Murdoch press to all things climate-friendly does not help the promotion of EVs. But even he cannot stop the enthusiasm that we EV-angelists communicate to others.

Sounds about right. Interesting reader comments attached to the article as well.

Has anyone seen advertising for a Leaf yet? I remember Nissan ran a LEAF ad maybe 12 months ago but not lately. The current Nissan Runout Sale (or whatever the current ad is) has a blue LEAF in the picture but no more details. Leigh

No, not in the print media. And I am glad that the LEAF is not boosting Murdoch's profits.
But Nissan have been very active in the cyber / visual / social media field, with some very good video ads. I even saw a brief clip in a cinema.
Whilst waiting for the LEAF to arrive in Australia, I was trawling the Net for anything LEAF, and found some great LEAF owner experience clips, which had more impact for me than glossy newspaper or billboard ads.
I believe Nissan have done their homework on the Australian EV market and likely uptake. Their conclusion seems to be that they could throw hundreds of thousands of dollars into expensive media, but it would not necessarily translate into a corresponding increase in LEAF sales.
Our print media ' noise ' is as quiet as our cars.

They think we are either hippies or geeks. Neither of which watch much TV.

There is LEAF advertising near the customs entry at the Sydney International Airport. Basically a full wall.

Heh, it's actually in departures, not arrivals, so people will be at their most alert of the entire trip! Who is going to be awake enough to see that

Actually it's Immigration, not customs, that you go through. My mistake.
You go with your departure card, passport and boarding pass. It's this entrance that sports the huge LEAF ad.

There is a full size billboard leading to departures in Sydney International Airport however it focuses on the fact you can control your AC from your phone which is a little irrelevant in my opinion and misses the mark.

Phoebe, My guess is the majority of people who see it are Australians who can afford to travel, hence probably a good group to market to. For example, I've seen it quite a few times! ;D Glad it was your mistake and not mine, Jim ;D But I still have to ask the question 'What is the point of Nissan AUSTRALIA advertising the LEAF to people leaving Australia, they aren't going to be customers, are they'
