Simple question I think. Whenever you start the car, you have to (or at least I do) press OK on the screen to get the map view. Is there anyway to get around that. I find it irresistible and can't just leave the safety blurb there. ie, can you do something to stop having to press the OK button each time you start the car

Funnily enough I spoke to Dean about this very thing yesterday.
His answer was that the car has to ask us for permission every trip because it sends data to Nissan. And it has to ask every single time in case we have sold the car since we last said yes.
It is by far the most annoying feature of the car, and I leave the nav on the "OK" screen on most trips. This means I get no nav, and Nissan gets no data.

BTW the guys on the US forums have also been trying to fix the issue, and at least one guy has done some rewiring in the nav unit to respond to the message automatically.
Interestingly in the US they have OK and Cancel options, if they choose Cancel the nav works but data does not get sent. Nissan Oz are the only country that give us the option of saying OK, or having no sat nav. Rude.

I always know where I'm going so I don't need nav, my screen is turned off so I don't need to press or ignore OK, and Nissan have no idea where I am going ;D

A lot of or read most cars with sat nav built in have the disclaimer screen. If you crash while using it, it's your fault etc...

Yeah, my understanding has always been that it's for legal reasons, so we can't sue them if we're watching it like a TV instead of driving. I've had to do it on every built-in GPS for the last decade.
Like the urban myth about the lady who sued Winnebago after crashing her new motorhome. The story goes she got on the freeway, set the cruise control to 55MPH, and then walked to the back of the RV to make a cup of tea, somehow believing cruise control meant auto pilot! In the myth she won her court case since no one told her this in advance.
I'm sure it's not true but shows that people are both stupid and litigious!

Thanks all. For some reason I can't resist hitting the OK, so I will keep doing it. A bit like trying to ignore a ringing phone

Me too. I hit it every time, even if I don't plan to use the screen!

If you're worried about wearing a mark on the screen after a few years of pressing the OK button, you can buy iPad screen covers for cheap off eBay and each one can make two covers for the car's display. Just use a sharp knife and ruler, the dimensions are 155mm x 81.5mm.

I wouldn't worry Feng. I have an 11 year old car, with built-in GPS and same OK button, that we punished on a daily basis and it still looks and works fine.

Love your posts Feng, but are you developing LOS (Leaf Obsession Syndrome). This is a recently described medical condition with currently no known cure!!!! Symptoms include compulsively checking LEAF forums, compulsively checking the LEAF charge on a smartphone, studying Google maps on where to go and how to get there. Maybe I should try to cut back a little before I jump the shark!

Yeah, I'm slowly getting better. There was a 90 day period I was obsessed with our range.
My wife finally got mad at me for not allowing the heater to be on during one of my "tests."
I'm slightly less obsessive now and back to just loving driving it every time I get in!

You've seen that old MontyPython sketch? "You have an OK button to press? That were luxury!" Mate of mine bought a Leaf just before me. His Nav unit died last week, just 13 months after purchase. No maps, no bluetooth, no climate control, he's grief stricken!
Nissan saying it's out of warranty, which it is I guess, but seems harsh when Hyundai are offering 7 years! Anyway good example of the 'everything-is-connected' effect as my buddy is now pondering what would happen if the 17 incher on the Tesla were to do likewise? Thinking of cancelling his Model S order. I is sad, never going to get an EV run down to Silos Estate now.

I thought warranty is 3 years...
By the way one way to stop Nissan from getting your data is by simply removing the SIM card.

I've lost track of time, have they even been for sale here for over three years (assuming your mate is Australian)? Any idea how badly broken it is and is there any chance he can attempt to repair it himself? Anything on the MNL forum about dead nav units?

I snooped around a bit when my heater broke, plenty of PTC kettle grief on the USA forum around 2012, not much on dead Nav boxes but lots of guys modifying them like crazy. I suspect gabzimiev is right, I don't think NissanOz have really embraced their EV. Not sure how broke it is, would like to have had a look but he was pretty keen to just get it to the dealership & fixed.

He might reconsider when they tell him how much it'll cost! I think I saw a video or photos somewhere on how to disassmble the console to pull it out. If he's technically minded it's worth him having a try himself, he has nothing to lose.
