My dad's shopping for a small SUV and was 99% sure it was going to be a new Kia Seltos in the low $40k range. I'm now eyeing the MG ZS EV and quietly hoping he'll reconsider. The top spec petrol SZ is $27k so hopefully the EV model will be within budget. I messaged MG on Facebook and they said it'll be here mid next year. The Seltos is pretty nice and has good reviews. Is it foolish to give all that up for a made in China MG simply because it's electric? The interior, especially the user interface looks pretty average compared to the Seltos. Fully Charged review is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kc3soIPQAg

Robert calculated range wrong in kms. Should be 260km instead of 145km. 4 mins in. 163 mi is correct.

That's still plenty usable. Active thermal management means it'll last a long time too!

Out of budget alas. We were originally budgeting ~$32k for a Cerato and are already stretching it for a Seltos. Stretching again for a ZS doesn't feel sensible. He's not as keen on EVs as me and can live with another ICE.

Yeah. I was hoping for a bit less from a Chinese car (with British emblem ). "Australia tax" perhaps.

The pricing is pretty on par with UK pricing after conversion (before any government incentives).
The headline pricing of £21,495 is for the base grade ZS EV after a £3,500 Government + MG incentive has been taken away so the actual price is £24,995 for the base and £26,995 for the premium grade, after conversion comes to $46,765AUD and $50,507AUD respectively.

I’m a bit concerned about the crash safety rating of the MG ZS EV. They have added driving and safety aids but no additional safety features or structural modification which means it will most likely be a 4 star ANCAP rating which is a disappointment.
I will not be considering it recommending it if that is the case.

impulse ordered one 2nd Nov 2019 Q3 2020 delivery. Bjørn Nyland loves it. Ev zs 5 stars euro ncap vs ice zs 3 stars 2 reasons for ordering it A) smooth indicator knobs unlike Hyundai’s 2 piece plastic B) don’t like Kona’s bosch brakes that need firm pressure to stop, like Holden volt. Tried to cancel order cos was swayed by $57k (now $55k) used Kona elite, but mg sales manager said no backing out of deal. www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2019-Hyundai-Kona-electric-Elite-Auto-MY19/SSE-AD-6366698Attachments:

So are you going ahead with the purchase or are you/did you end up getting the Kona?
My dad was after a new car but didn't want to wait so long nor spend so much for the ZS EV. Ended up picking up a new Kia Seltos GT yesterday. It's very nice but not electric and that detracts from the experience to me.

You won’t regret it With Tesla, you know they are committed to BEV, so have a vested interest in keeping their ecosystem maintained and working (charging network, App). All other manufacturers seem to be sitting on the fence, trying to work out how hard they should go in, or not. They will remain conflicted for a long time.
