Hi, Labor has just released an EV policy, apparently based on consultation with the Australian Electric Vehicle Council: link Looks promising. Meanwhile, the current govt, after 6 years in the job, and four years since a review of transport emissions, has committed to form some sort of policy in mid-2020. Transport emissions make up 19% of Australia's carbon emissions, so this needs urgent action.

The one pager from the current government was beyond a joke. A total farce. No semblance whatsoever of an actual policy.

The 50% by 2030 target will easily be achieved IMO without intervention given price parity will happen in around 4-5 years - then it will be like the iphone adoption. But Fleet targets are great and much needed - as are business tax deductions. Amazing how this has triggered some people - there is so much anti-EV FUD in some of the darker corners of the media - sky etc... the BS they are posting! I started interacting but I think for most of those making the noise facts don't matter - they have an agenda.

I like the idea of getting EVs into fleets, because then in another few years there will be a bunch of second-hand EVs available to buy. I noticed that they haven't mentioned any incentives for buyers, but I understand that it would be politically difficult given the "anti-EV FUD" already out there.

Its very difficult, I put my experience on the ABC breakfast facebook page. I regretted that after some of the responses i got. Like being able to two a 3 tonne boat 500km with a LEAF etc. Not something I will repeat..

A bright yellow brochure arrived in my letterbox from the Clive Palmer UAP party, and I noticed the words "electric cars" and had to have a look. Seems like a scare campaign, but doesn't make any sense, as it's cheaper to drive on electricity. In the meantime, there was an article at The Driven, about EV uptake out to 2030, much more sensible stuff. Government policy will be key - I'd love to see Australia have some emission standards for vehicles. link

UAP never let the facts get in the way of a ridiculous argument. I pay top dollar for 100% Green Power and still my running costs are one-third of a Toyota Corolla.
