Virginia Meikle (Virginia.Meikle@mynrma.com.au) would like answers to the following:
Hi All,
The NRMA is continuing to move ahead with its plans to roll out an EV fast charger network across NSW/ACT and other parts of Australia. We have been working with vendors, councils, and other relevant bodies to identify sites for the fast chargers, but really need your help in ensuring that the experience we develop meets the needs of EV owners.
We have a couple of things we’d like to hear back from you about….
• Safety and site requirements
When speaking to Councils, we’d really like to be specific about what sorts of things we are looking for in a site that might make it suitable for a fast charger
o From your perspective, what are the minimum safety requirements we should be mindful about?
o If someone was to build the site from scratch, what factors do they need to take into account to ensure you feel safe when charging your vehicle?
o What’s an example of a place where there is a charger that you think has been done well – and what is it about that place.
o What mistakes have others made that we should be mindful about?
• Getting ICE’d
Having an Internal Combustion Engine vehicle (ICE) parked in an EV charging bay is a key pain point for EV drivers and I we would like to try to solve it.
o Why do you think ICE vehicles park in EV charging spaces?
o What enforcement conditions seem to work best in your experience? What signage is most effective?
o If charging spaces cannot be exclusive EV spaces what is a reasonable allowance for non-EV drivers?
o What do you think we can do to ensure people understand that the conditions around EV charging?
o What other ideas do you have that you think could work?
• Charger etiquette
Most things have a way that they should ‘just be done’. Etiquette so to speak.
o What is the etiquette for charging an EV?
o What can we do to drive good EV etiquette?
If you have some time to respond to all or some of the questions above, I would love to hear from you. It would be great if you could email me back about your thoughts around these questions by next Monday (26 February).
Kind regards,
Virginia
