Does anyone currently charge their EV in their apartment building basement? I am looking to move soon and the lack of charging infrastructure in MUBs is a major deterrent. All I need is a guarantee that I can plug into a powerpoint overnight in my carpark with no issues from body corporate. I know there are companies that specialise in retrofitting options (Jet charging) but am wondering if anyone on this forum has any direct experience of this matter and how they have resolved it. Thanks!

I have managed to organise a presentation to our local council planners on this issue (apartment buildings and EVs). My colleague and I want to present the difference in costs between building in the capacity for each carpark to install their own charger (ie individual sub-metered circuits - just with std GPO) at the development stage VS the retrofit option (e.g. Jet Charge). I understand there is risks with the retrofit option - ie body corp approval, limits on circuit loads / capacity - however we just want to paint the picture - that there is a need for future proofing now and it needs to be addressed by all levels of government - including Local Councils through their planning scheme and policies.
I am after someone who knows about this - ie electrical engineers - who can give me a rough estimate on the additional costs associated with the install at the development stage. Also - if anyone has any costs on the retrofitting options that would be great too.

Thanks! The issue is that charging in the common area car park using "free" common area power is against strata/body corporate regulations. Our solution is called Charge Star: e-station.com.au/charge-star-strata/Cost - $350 + GST per site per year. Call 1300 695 774 for more information. E-Station made a submission to the Select Committee on Electric Vehicles suggesting that the States change the building codes to pre-wire apartment blocks for charging stations.

So is $350 the only ongoing operational cost? Who pays and meters the electricity used?
