I have always hated being a " number " - it is inhuman. Hence, I would like our car to have a nickname on Carwings, rather than a seven number string. I have noticed that many overseas cars on Carwings have nicknames. I have raised this with Nissan Australia, who have advised that overseas, registration on Carwings is voluntary, and initiated by the car owners themselves, who can specify their nicknames when they register. However, in Australia, the policy is that Nissan registers the vehicle on Carwings pre-delivery, and they use the dealer's stock number as the ' Nickname '. Evidently, once set, with the current software, it can not be changed. But, with the amount of hard earned money that we have had to part with, it would have been nice to have been asked, when placing the order, ' What nickname would you like to use on Carwings ? ' It could then be entered by the company on registration of the vehicle on Carwings.

Makes sense Brian. And in the digital age it would seem like nickname changes would be a no-brainer. Surely there is another field in there somewhere to ID the car itself.
I looked up my ranking yesterday but had to remember my number and it does rob the experience of any kink of personality.

The manual would appear to offer a work-around. It would appear to offer the owner the option to de-register, although you would then loose all the data. This appears to be intended for where the car is sold. It seems that you can then register again, where, presumeably, you can specify your own ID. But it seems a combersome solution. My ' Regional ranking ' appeared to be 16, which is interesting when I can only see 8 Leafs registered in Australia. I looked for what other countries might be in the same ' Region ', i.e. New Zealand, but I did not see any obvious candidates.

Interesting, though does Nissan use the original number for it's tracking? Otherwise why does Nissan insist on registering it in the first place?

Dean from Nissan advised that the reason Nissan Australia insist on doing the original registration is because if it was left up to individual owners, some might never get round to registering, for various reasons. In which case Nissan would miss a mass of data that could be very useful for monitoring how the cars are going. From this, they could bring in future modifications / improvements.
The LEAF E.V. Info. System Owner's Manual page 5 - 6 shows the mass of data up-loaded. The first items are (1) User ID and (2) Vehicle Identification Number. I agree, I would have thought the VIN could have been the main reference. Incidently, I am surprised that battery temperature monitoring is not included.

Still, they could have done it with us at delivery - "okay, just registering Carwings, what nickname would you like to use for your LEAF?"

I don't see the advantage in a personal nickname, password.I have too many passwords, codes, keys etc.to remember as it is.let the dealer and carwings worry about it!

Too many codes and number strings is my point. It is a lot easier for me to recognise / memorise a nickname of my own creation, rather than a seven number string created by someone else. This particularly applies when reading the international rankings on Carwings.

Pity that with all its sophisication, it cannot accurately find charge stations. I asked it to find Essendon Nissan and when I got to Keilor Road, it said it was a left turn when in fact it was to my right.
Needs some work!

Welcome to the Forum cookev! Can't comment on finding charge stations, though, because I know there aren't any within 50kms of me at Maitland.

Hey cookev! Once you do find an EVSE and have plugged in, it won't forget where the station is for next time.

Welcome Cook EV In a perfect world, every charge point would be logged on Carwings. But one problem is all the different providers, and getting them to supply the information. Another is the sweetheart deal Nissan Australia has done with Origin, such that only Origin charge points are logged, initially. But it would be a great upgrade to Carwings if, every time someone plugged in to a previously ' un-registered-on-Carwings ' charge point, as well as being recorded on that vehicle's sat nav, as stated by Leafboi, those details were uploaded through Carwings, and made available to all Carwings subscribers. That way, as LEAF numbers grow, hopefully the 'list ' would populate quite quickly.

Interesting. Wish we could pipe into that. I'm still concerned about my perceived loss of milage per charge.

Anyone else having problems logging into Carwings or is it just me? I got the login to the portal from Dean this week but I haven't had any luck getting into the Carwings site.

Yeah, can get into the portal fine but Carwings says: "The service cannot be provided. Please try it again or contact NISSAN."
Personally I don't really have much use for Carwings.

Likewise - I have been unable to log in for weeks.
I don't even get an error message - just a dead ' click ' and nothing happens.
I like the concept of Carwings, but before it ' crashed ', I found it was woefully inaccurate, although Dean said that was being fixed.
If it really can provide the remote battery diagnostics described previously, then it could be very important, and something that should be working.
I also believe subscribers are owed some explanation. When we bought our LEAF we were advised that the price included a subscription to Carwings - if it ain't available, they ain't delivering.

So....I spoke to Dean@Nissan about this issue. Basically they are aware of the problem, and have an interim, daily fix until it is fixed properly. In the meantime I guess we should consider it intermittent The good news is that I did manage to log in to both the app and the website while on the phone. For those who haven't had a look around, here is some of the data: Either they have only sold 69 leafs, or not everyone is registered.....because I think it is very unlikely there is anyone *worse* than us..... Looks like we are a very small part of the Leaf world....

On second thought is a bit Big Bortheresque. But hey, if you have nothing to hide....;-)

Welcome, Marty.
You're right - nothing to hide, nothing to fear.
What I like about it is that it enables Nissan to monitor how their cars and batteries are performing around the world. Hopefully that will alert them to any problem trends, and lead to any needed improvements. After all, we are trail blazing.
An interesting case occured in the U.S.. A LEAF owner was called by his dealer and asked to bring his LEAF in. Carwings had detected a fault in one of the battery cells, of which the owner had been unaware. The cell was changed under warranty, leaving one happy owner.
So, allowing Carwings to access our information can be a two-way trade.

I have a new nissan leaf...Please help me how I can register on carvings to operate my car with my phone...I live in australia Victoria I had the same issue. My dealer didn't setup carwings for me. You can contact Dean on 1800 LEAF EV or nissan_leaf@nissan.com.au. Dean is the LEAF specialist in Nissan. He can create a carwings account for you. You will have to provide your VIN. ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/467/register-carwingsYour LEAF may still in delivery mode and the SIM is disabled. If that is the case, you will have to bring the car back to the dealer to activate it. If the dealer doesn't know how to bring the LEAF out from the delivery mode, they can contact Dean. Once you have Carwings working, you will find a bug in the official iPhone app. You can use the free LEAF Link app to work around the issue. ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/471/white-pop-block-leaf-iosMay I ask which dealer were you ordered from?
