Seems harsh, made sense to me

So, what is the energy density of hydrogen? Low I believe. Hydrogen also makes steel and alloys very brittle over time. Huge pressure required to contain hydrogen so a ceramic has been developed that it likes to hug, reducing that pressure - more weight. How is hydrogen produced. There's the hydrolysis process of a current in salted water splitting Oxygen and Hydrogen. There's the stripping from fossil fuels (gas in particular) - funny that - mmm - the FF componies are pushing hydrogen - problem - CO2 byproduct (back to square 1). then there's the new titanium impregnated polymers that split water in direct sunlight. Now, the later makes sense for domestic storage. But - lithium battery technolgy is cheaper. A PV hydrolysis system stored in the ceramic tanks and a 2kW 240V fuel cell was going to cost me about $45000 last year. That's what a 5kW PV array with lead acid storage cost 7 years ago.

Someone made the observation that "looks like Hyundai, Toyota, Mercedes, Honda and GM are going the hydrogen route."
The mind boggles. I suppose I can understand the other car makers going with that BS but GM has the Volt. Why would they bother with such silliness? I guess after all the Volt has got some severe shortcomings so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised really. I mean why would you ruin a perfectly good EV by putting an ICE in it - permanently? I could understand a trailer or a range extender in the boot, but permanent, and integrated!! Madness. How-to double the complexity and maintenance costs, while keeping your high fuel cost. It's really just a type of hybrid I guess - but they were so close to getting it right. If only they were just a little bit brighter.
I heard the other day that Holden was leaving Australia too. A lot of people are going to get hurt when GM finally goes down the gurgler. And this time no amount of propping up will save them.
The older I get - the crazier the world seems. Any of you other old timers get this too?

Mark, you are my kids generation, so if you are an old timer what does that make me And I reckon the world has always had crazy patches - they may not be so obvious to the young ;D

the military in the US is involved in everything energy related. from biofuel for fast jets to electric cars for on base. the US military know that energy security will define warfare for the next 100 years.
